England's odds drift after France defeat - latest Women's Euro odds

England women’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages of the Women’s Euros took a hit with a defeat in their opening game against France at the weekend. Following their 1-0 defeat, Sarah Wiegman’s Lionesses know that if they lose to the Netherlands and France win or draw their match against Wales, they will be out of the competition.

Wales, in their first major international tournament, find themselves in a similarly precarious position as the defending champions. A loss to France and a point for the Netherlands will see them guaranteed a group stage exit, regardless of results in their third game.

The Lionesses went into the Women’s Euros as 7/2 second favourites. The defending champions had endured mixed results leading up to the tournament, while the retirement of goalkeeper Mary Earps took the headlines.

Spain were listed as favourites, at odds of 2/1. While the Spanish met expectations with a dominant 5-0 victory over Portugal, England fell to a 1-0 loss to France, who started the tournament at the same odds as Wiegman’s team.

Matchday One also saw the Germans run out 2-0 victors over Poland, while the Netherlands made easy work of debutants Wales with a 3-0 victory.

Tournament Odds

Following the first round of matches, bookmakers have reassessed their odds. Spain remain the favourites, but their resounding victory over Portugal has seen their price slashed from 2/1 to evens.

Meanwhile, as England prepares to play the Netherlands, their odds have drifted from 7/2 to 15/2. France’s odds have also drifted a little, despite their opening victory. They are now 9/2, out from 7/2. Also ahead of England in the bookmakers’ eyes are Germany. Their odds have held at 9/2, the same as they were before the tournament began.

Wales, starting their first major tournament, were priced at 200/1 before kicking a ball, and their odds have now fallen all the way out to 500/1.
