The pair, who are playing Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz respectively, are odds-on favourites to win their matches and proceed to the final, where they would play a rematch of last month’s French Open.

Sinner vs Djokovic

Jannik Sinner is the current world number one, and has been for just over a year. He is the first Italian to achieve the feat, and his style of play has drawn a lot of comparisons with that of Novak Djokovic. He is strongest from the baseline and has worked on improving his serve over the past couple of seasons.

At this year’s Wimbledon, he enjoyed a large slice of luck in progressing past Grigor Dimitrov. Dimitrov was two sets up when he had to retire with a pectoral muscle injury.

It marks the fifth consecutive Grand Slam retirement for Dimitrov, and Sinner himself said of the result: “I don’t take this as a win at all, this is just an unfortunate moment for all of us to witness.”

Sinner was sporting an elbow injury himself, suffered after a fall earlier in the tournament, but says he will be ready for the Djokovic test, saying: “Time will always help and Thursday is one day off, which is going to be good for me, and Friday I’m going to be 100%.”

He faces Djokovic, who is still world number six despite struggling to reach his previous highs. If he wins this year’s Wimbledon, the Serb will become the most decorated player in the Open Era with 25 major titles.

The bookmakers don’t fancy Djokovic’s chances, however. Sinner has been priced at 4/9 for the win while Djokovic is 8/5 to progress.

Alcaraz vs Fritz

In the other semi-final, Carlos Alcaraz, who has won two consecutive Wimbledon titles and is the current world number 2, is widely fancied to dispatch American Taylor Fritz.

Fritz is the world number 5, so no pushover, but Alcaraz came into this tournament as the hot favourite, and his grass court record means he remains so.  Alcaraz’s two previous Wimbledon victories have come in finals against Djokovic, so he might be cheering the Serb on in the other semi-final.

With that said, Alcaraz has also beaten Sinner twice in the past year. Fritz has never taken a set off Alcaraz, albeit only from two meetings, but he does prefer the grass and has won two titles on the surface this year in Stuttgart and Eastbourne. Alcaraz is 1/6 for the win, while Fritz has been given odds of 19/5 to prevail.

Tournament winner

In the eyes of bookmakers, Alcaraz is not only the most likely winner of his semi-final but of the tournament. He has been given odds of 4/5 to win the men’s title, while Sinner is 2/1. Djokovic and Fritz have been given odds of 9/2 and 16/1, respectively.
