Taylor v Serrano 3 - Serrano favourite for final bout in trilogy encounter

The Taylor vs Serrano trilogy encounter draws to a conclusion this Friday night. The third and final bout returns to Madison Square Garden, New York, and despite Taylor having won the two opening bouts, Serrano enters this fight as the 8/13 favourite.

The fight is supported by a strong undercard that features Ellie Scotney and Savannah Marshall’s title bouts.

Taylor and Serrano are two of the best boxers of the modern age. Serrano is a world champion at seven weights, while Taylor has won undisputed titles in two different weight classes. The older Taylor, who is 39 years old, enters the fight with just one loss on her record, having won 24 fights.

She immediately avenged the defeat by beating Chantelle Cameron in the rematch. 

Serrano is a few years Taylor’s junior, at 36 years old. But, despite being younger, she has more fights under her belt, having won 47, lost three, and drawn one. Two of those three losses have come against Friday’s opponent, Taylor.

The bout is hotly anticipated, due to the first two fights being considered classics. In fight one, three years ago, the pair threw 320 punches as Taylor took the split decision victory. The second fight wasn’t quite as close, but the Irishwoman still had to battle to get her victory. 

Serrano outpunched her opponent from the first second, in both fights, but couldn’t do enough damage to take a victory. Fans will be expecting another action-packed fight between the pair.

While Serrano is the 8/13 favourite, Taylor has been given odds of 6/4 to take a third victory, and bookmakers have priced the draw at 12/1.

Scotney v Mercado

Friday also features a strong undercard. Brit Ellie Scotney will take on Mexican Yamileth Mercado. Scotney, who has a record of 10 wins and 0 losses, already holds the The Ring, IBF, and WBO titles and is hoping to add the WBC title in the unification clash. Scotney is the resounding favourite, priced at 1/7 for the fight, with Mercade given odds of 5/1.

Marshall v Green

Another Brit, Savannah Marshall, also features on the undercard, as she takes on American Shadasia Green. Marshall, the current IBF super-middleweight champion, hasn’t fought since July 2023, when she beat Franchon Crews-Dezurn by majority decision. She has a record of 13 wins, including 10 by knockout, and a solitary defeat to Claressa Shields in October 2022. Green has a similarly impressive record with 14 wins, 10 by knockout, and just one loss. She last fought in November 2024.
