DragonBet is primarily a sportsbook, but its online casino has plenty to enjoy too. Let's take a look.

Dragons are a popular motif in the casino world – but it’s usually gold-coloured creatures of the Asian persuasion.

At DragonBet, however, we’re dealing with the fiery red variety hailing from Wales. That’s because this bookmaker-turned-casino was founded by two Welsh siblings.

    What is DragonBet all about?

Set up by John and James Lovell, two bookmaking brothers from Wales, DragonBet was originally a white label betting site - specifically a horse racing betting site

The company now has its own Gambling Commission license. But it still uses the same platform – Playbook Engineering – originally developed for Star Sports.

Several other horse racing bookmakers, including AK Bets and PricedUp, also use this software. And it’s very clear that the online casino comes second to the bookmaking business in terms of priority.

Still, it’s not bad at all. In fact, there are many positives, as you’re about to find out.

    Bonuses

Let’s get one of DragonBet casino’s weakest features out of the way early – the casino welcome bonus is average at best.

Deposit a minimum of £10 to receive 20 free spins on Big Bass Splash by Pragmatic Play.

On the bright side, these spins carry no wagering requirements. Any winnings are yours to keep – withdraw them right away, if you like. Compared to most UK casinos online, though, this is a tiny bonus.

There aren’t many other casino promotions, either, underlining the fact that bookmaking is the main focus here. However, opt into the Slots Club and there’s a £50 bonus whenever you wager £250 on selected titles.

The company’s relationship with Pragmatic Play also ensures DragonBet casino players are eligible for Drops & Wins – £2,000,000 is randomly awarded every month

    Available games

This isn’t the biggest online casino I’ve ever seen, but there’s enough to keep you busy.

Like any casino, most games are online slots. A high percentage of them – more than 50 of the 550 or so titles – are Megaways games.

There are no Play’n GO slots, so you can’t play Book Of Dead. Nor will you find life-changing progressive jackpots, such as Mega Moolah or WowPot.

What DragonBet does offer is a solid collection of Blueprint Gaming and Pragmatic Play titles. You can play eight Fishin’ Frenzy games, for example, plus over 25 of the Big Bass series.

The selection of RNG table games is limited to ten blackjack and roulette games. There are no craps or casino poker variants here.

Andar bahar and baccarat tables are available, but only in the live casino. This is powered exclusively by Pragmatic Play, so expect high-definition streams of exciting game shows. Sweet Bonanza CandyLand and Snakes & Ladders Live are my favourites.

There are also two crash games – High Flyer and Spaceman – both of which appear in the live casino, for some unknown reason.

    User experience and interface

The website is generally easy to use, whether you’re on desktop or mobile. But there are a few frustrations.

There isn’t a dedicated promotions page, for example. As such, it’s difficult to know what bonuses are even available, never mind reading their terms and conditions.

At least the registration process is straightforward. After providing your email and choosing a password, you’ll enter the remaining details – full name, address, date of birth and phone number – on one page.

I always prefer this to casinos that split the form into several parts, tricking you into thinking you’re done when you aren’t.

After creating the account, you’re immediately prompted to set responsible gambling limits, before making a deposit. That’s nice to see, showing that DragonBet prioritises safety over making money.

    Mobile and app compatibility

DragonBet offers a native app for Android and iOS devices, but it’s not really necessary. The website responds to your device, automatically adjusting the display for optimal performance, regardless of screen size.

It actually looks slightly better on a smartphone than it does in a desktop browser. But the selection of games, payment methods and other features is identical.

If you’d prefer to use the app, it’s much like the website – perfectly adequate, but nothing special. App Store users rate it 4.1 out of 5, while the Android software has a score of 3.7 at the time of writing.

    VIP programmes and loyalty rewards

DragonBet casino doesn’t have any kind of loyalty program.

The closest you’ll get is the Slots Club I mentioned earlier – there’s a £50 bonus when you wager £250 on selected slots.

    Diving deeper into DragonBet casino

    Licencing

As you’d hope, this casino operates 100% legally. Set up May 2024, Dragonbet Ltd is registered with number 15718764 at Companies House.

The business possesses a valid remote casino operating licence (number 064908-R-339041-001) from the Gambling Commission – something I personally verified.

Although Dragonbet is a small and independent operation, it uses the Playbook Engineering platform. This is affiliated with Star Racing Ltd – better known as Star Sports – another legal and licensed UK gambling company.

It’s also used by several other UK-based gambling brands, including AK Bets and PricedUp.

    Payment methods

The choice of casino payment methods at Dragonbet is extremely limited.

Don’t expect to find e-wallets, vouchers or mobile phone billing – you can’t even make a bank transfer. The only choice here is whether to use a Visa or a Mastercard.

That said, there are some positives. For instance, it’s possible to deposit and withdraw just £1, which is pretty rare. There are no transaction fees, either.

High rollers will be pleased to learn there’s no maximum withdrawal limit. However, the site’s Ts&Cs warn that sums greater than £20,000 may require special arrangements.

    Software providers

Just eight providers contribute to the DragonBet Casino.

It’s not many, but they’re all extremely well-known companies, famous for producing top-tier games – especially Pragmatic Play, which also powers the live casino.

Several classic NetEnt slots are present, including Starburst, while Nolimit City, Relax Gaming and Red Tiger also contribute a handful of smash hit titles. Highlights include Deadwood RIP,  Money Train 4 and Piggy Riches Megaways 2.

    Security and fairness

Payments at DragonBet are secured with 256-bit SSL encryption.

The site also employs strict identity verification protocols, in line with Gambling Commission regulations, to fight fraud. This also protects vulnerable players, keeping under-18s away and picking up self-excluded players if they try to circumvent the rules.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to configure multi-factor authentication, though not every online casino offers that anyway.

All games in the DragonBet library are taken from reputable providers. They work with independent software testing houses to certify their products as truly fair and random.

    Responsible gambling measures

If required, you may configure several responsible gambling tools from within your account:

    • Reality check. A pop-up that reminds you of your session length.
    • Playbreak. Take a temporary break from 24 hours up to six weeks.
    • Deposit limits. Cap your net deposits daily, weekly or monthly.
    • Self-exclusion. Block your access for six months up to five years.

Additionally, like all casinos with a Gambling Commission licence, DragonBet is part of GAMSTOP, the UK’s national self-exclusion scheme.

    FIRST rating: 3.8/5 stars

DragonBet is a perfectly serviceable online casino. It’s just very obviously a horse racing bookmaker with some games tacked on as an afterthought.

That said, there’s a solid platform on which to build, should the owners want to. There’s already a library of 600+ slots and table games, for instance, all supplied by elite providers. This includes a quality live casino and over 50 Megaways games.

The betting limits are broad, too. Deposit from just £1 and enjoy penny slots or table games for just £0.10 per play. Alternatively, hit the high-stakes roulette and blackjack tables for up to £5,000 a pop.

To increase its rating, DragoneBet must improve its selection of bonuses and payment methods. We’d also like to see 24/7 support and the addition of a proper loyalty program.
