Chris Eubank Jr: Brighton boxer goes up against the Benns all on his own
Chris Eubank Jr won’t have his famous father in his corner after he was publicly berated and practically disowned by him recently, so he will take on Conor, backed by Nigel Benn, all alone.
35-year-old Eubank is the reigning IBO world middleweight titleholder and a former British and WBA Interim champion.

He has won 34 fights with 25 knockouts, resulting in 73.53% KO ratio. He has beaten the likes of Arthur Abraham, James DeGale, Mat Korobov, Liam Williams and Liam Smith. His three defeats came at the hands of world champions Billy Joe Saunders, George Groves and the aforementioned Smith.
He started slow in the 2014 fight against Saunders, but rallied late to take it to a split decision. He was outclassed early, but his engine and workrate closed the gap down the stretch to make things interesting.
Against Groves, his weaknesses were laid bare. He was too slow and basic, overloaded on his punches, missing wildly as Groves outjabbed him and picked him off intelligently on the inside.
His last loss to Smith was very unexpected, as he had built a reputation for being durable and tough. During their 2023 fight, Eubank was overconfident and showy, and mistakenly left his hands down low as he underestimated the former world champion in front of him. As ‘Beefy’ trapped him in the corner in round four, Eubank flashily bobbed and weaved, but was caught heavily with a huge uppercut and left hook that took his legs away from him.
It's the only time Eubank has ever been dropped and it was shock for everyone to see, especially for him personally. It happened down at middleweight, and now he’s back down in that weight class again, but with a limiting 170lbs rehydration clause that could potentially weaken him.
Conor Benn: ‘The Destroyer’ aims to be ferocious and explosive to avenge his family name
Nigel Benn was unable to defeat Chris Eubank Sr over their two iconic fights in the 1990s, so Conor has a chance to even the score for his family.
28-year-old Conor Benn is known for his speed and ferocity. The aggressive welterweight has scored several highlight-reel KOs, where his blistering rapidity and ruthless savagery has been able to knock opponents out cold.
Two of these knockouts came in recent fights against Chris Algieri and Chris van Heerden. In 2021, he KO’d former world champ Algieri in stunning fashion in the fourth round of their 12-round title fight in Liverpool. Benn dipped down a level then leapt into a speedy straight one-two, which iced Algieri out cold on his feet. It was a truly brutal knockout and raw display of speed and power.
Just four months later, in 2022, he did the same to South African southpaw van Heerden. Another swift, straight left-right combination rocked his opponent, who was efficiently finished off with a right hook to the head in just the second round.
That was the year where it all wrong for Benn, when his October 8 fight with Eubank Jr was cancelled due to testing positive for clomifene. He protested his innocence vehemently and was eventually cleared by UKAD, but not until two years later after his reputation was left in tatters.
His last two comeback fights have each gone the distance. Firstly, he went 10 rounds in 2023 with Mexican Pacific Coast champion Rodolfo Oroczo. Then, his last fight was in February 2024 against tough American, Peter Dobson, which reached the final bell after 12 very one-sided rounds.
Those fights were both above 150lbs, so could this be an indication that his power diminishes slightly when fighting above his natural welterweight limit?

Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn: The key factors
Both Eubank and Benn have already summarised how this fight will go in their pre-fight statements.
Eubank has dismissed all the talk of size and weight and revealed that the key factors will be skill, experience, dedication and will. He added that he will be the matador leading the bull around the ring.
And Benn has confirmed his intentions to storm in and get his hands on his enemy as soon as possible, which is exactly how everyone expects him to approach the fight.
So, it appears this fight will be battle of skill and experience vs savagery and violence.
Benn has the ability to land fast and powerful straight shots to sweep unsuspecting opponents off their feet in a split-second, but Eubank is durable and tough.
He took the biggest shots at super-middleweight from George Groves, so a welterweight like Conor Benn arguably shouldn’t be able to hurt him, yet he was felled by Liam Smith, so anything is possible.
Smith threw a barrage of shots until something got through, which is what Benn’s best game plan would be – to throw flurries of fast shots on the target as a whole; that includes hitting arms, shoulders, neck, head; just anything he can possibly land on.
However, opening up like that is always a risk, as it leaves you vulnerable, and Eubank Jr is mostly a hooker, throwing bent arm punches, like uppercuts and hooks.
Benn can leave his right side open as he comes in, so it’s possible that when he dips down low and bobs and weaves his way into range that Eubank, if quick and timely enough, could land on him from around the side.
Matchroom Boxing’s Frank Smith believes there’s no way this fight will go past five rounds and he’s probably right. With all the emotions involved and the bragging rights, legacy and family honour at stake, it’s likely this will be fast and furious, high-octane, action-filled, frenzied and finishing early.
