The Bray Boxer and The Real Deal are set to square off in Madison Square Garden in New York for a third fight and fitting finale to their epic trilogy.

Taylor is 2-0 up, and Serrano is unbelievably irked by this scoreline after out-landing her enemy in both their previous bouts.

Katie Taylor: The Irish Queen

It’s said that Katie Taylor is the closest thing to royalty in her native Ireland. Perhaps, because the female superstar is unparallelled in her achievements in the sport after winning 18 gold medals in major tournaments – European (12); World (5); Olympics (1).

She replicated that unrivaled success in the pro ranks by becoming a two-weight undisputed champion, making her the one of the sport’s most successful fighters of all-time.

From Bray in County Wicklow, the 39-year-old is as tough as they come, which is a typical trait synonymous with Irish fighters. She is fast and aggressive, proven during her two epic wars with her biggest boxing rival, Amanda Serrano.

Against her nemesis, however, KT is normally forced onto the backfoot, where she fights in bursts, unleashing tornado-style flurries, which has worked to secure two points victories over the Puerto Rican to date.

She has lost just once in the pros, when she staged a homecoming in Dublin in 2023. Busy Briton Chantelle Cameron was just too energetic and strong in their first match, ruled as mixed decision to “Wham Bam Chan”. But like a true champion, Taylor was able to right in the wrong just six months later in the same arena, with the same decision reversed, seeing her hand raised in the rematch.

That victory saw her crowned as a two-weight undisputed champion. Just one fight followed on from that – the rematch win over Serrano, which was her only appearance last year.

Amanda Serrano: The Real Deal

Puerto Rican puncher Amanda Serrano is a seven-weight world champion and a Guinness World Record breaker for winning the most world championships in different weight classes – nine major world titles across seven weight classes.

Coupled with her rival, Taylor, the 36-year-old has been able to continue breaking records, like when the pair became the first females to headline the iconic Madison Square Garden in 2022; then they broke viewing figures when 74 million tuned in to watch their rematch last November on Netflix, on the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson card.

Even their trilogy is set to break a Guiness World Record for the most world titles ever contested in a single boxing bill.

She is ‘The Real Deal’, like her moniker says, but she is rightfully feeling hard done by in both results of her tussles with Taylor.

In both bouts, the Caribbean southpaw outpunched and outlanded the Irishwoman, but was denied by a split decision in New York, then a unanimous decision followed in Texas.

Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3: The key factors

So far, we have 20 rounds to draw from, which should make deciding a winner easier to do. Wrong. Their battles have been fought in a phone box, have swung back and forth, both boxers showing signs of being hurt on multiple occasions.

Although Serrano currently edges Taylor as the bookies' favourite, in reality not much has changed - this is another 50-50 affair and almost impossible to predict the outcome.

What we can say is that neither fighter has been able to knock out the other, or even drop them to the canvas. They’ve each shown signs of vulnerability, but have always managed to battle through, digging deep into the trenches.

Serrano is clearly stronger and Taylor visibly faster. It’s KT’s quick hands that have allowed her to land multiple clean, eyecatching shots to sway the judges at ringside twice.

It's worth noting the contest will be fought in the light-welterweight class; each weight class affects how fights can go and should influence your betting strategy.

Taylor was guilty of leading with her head in the last fight, causing a bad cut to Serrano’s right eye, which impaired her ability to fight in the later rounds. Taylor was rightfully deducted a point, but it took many offences to receive the penalty.

Everyone will be hoping this will be avoided, as fight fans just want to see a good, clean fight.

So, expect a carbon copy of fight one and two. These incredible record-breaking females will meet in the middle and explode for the entire duration of the 10-rounds.

Taylor often starts on the back foot, rolling under and evading Serrano’s potent hooks and attacks, but the steam train just keeps on coming and the Irish fighter refuses to back down, so eventually they each succumb to just trading non-stop in the centre.

The difference with this one is that Taylor is now 39-years-old and has been involved in quite a few wars now – two with Serrano and two with Chantelle Cameron. Could her age and all those miles on the clock be catching up with the Celtic warrior?

Plus, the Puerto Rican icon has many sympathisers after being denied in both fights, many upset that she has won the fights on paper, in the numbers, but not in reality. Could the judges view the victim with a little more consideration on this third occasion?

We’re about to find out the answers to these questions in the most thrilling way possible.

FIRST’s top tip for Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano

If the trilogy fight goes the same way as the first two wars, then the result will also be similar. Serrano is due the win, but I’m going to side with Taylor to win on points – most likely a split decision.

Extra tips

These two boxers can barely be split, so betting on a draw will always provide great odds – Ladbrokes are offering 13/1 at the time of writing.
