The Premier League heads to Newcastle for night eight and there is one player who is pulling away from the rest – Luke Littler.

He lost just nine legs on his way to a third nightly crown in Cardiff, defeating Michael van Gerwen in the final.

The Dutchman reached his first final of the Premier League season, while Stephen Bunting’s wait for a victory goes on. He is the first player since the change of format in 2022 to lose his first seven games.

With the playoffs edging ever closer, the battle is on for a top-four finish.

Quarter-final fixtures for night eight in Newcastle

Luke Littler vs Stephen Bunting

Gerwyn Price vs Rob Cross

Luke Humphries vs Chris Dobey

Michael van Gerwen vs Nathan Aspinall

Key talking points: Nathan Aspinall could reach his third final of the season

Nathan Aspinall won the second European Tour event of the season on Sunday, defeating Ryan Joyce 8-4 in Gottingen.

The Englishman averaged over 98 in four of his five matches, which included a stunning 6-1 win over Luke Humphries on his way to a first-ranking success since 2023.

Van Gerwen may have reached his first nightly final in the Premier League last week, but he suffered a surprising loss to Joyce in the semi-finals in Gottingen. This clash could be the most interesting of the quarter-finals, no doubt about that.

Littler is the hot favourite to win in Newcastle this week and he should take care of Bunting without much of a hitch. They met in the quarter-finals on night four, with Littler easing to a comfortable 6-3 victory.

Bunting has averaged more than his opponent only once in seven matches, while ranking last for tournament 180s, scoring just 22. Facing Littler is the worst possible draw as he aims to finally win a match.

Gerwyn Price suffered a narrow defeat to Rob Cross last week, losing 6-5. Cross took out a stunning 170 checkout to reach the semi-finals and fans will be hoping for another classic.

Cross has had the upper hand since the start of 2024, winning five of their eight matches, yet Price is the one with the better record in the Premier League this season. The Welshman has won two nights and with a clash against Littler potentially awaiting in the semi-finals, he will be seeking revenge against ‘Voltage’ this week.

Humphries has won five of his previous seven games against Chris Dobey and will fancy his chances of improving that record in Newcastle.

Indeed, ‘Hollywood’ has won just five points from his 10 matches in the competition. He reached the final way back in week one, but has won only one match since.

The 2024 world champion suffered an early exit at the second European Tour event last week, so will be desperate to claim his third nightly win of the season.

FIRST’s top tip for Premier League Darts night eight

With Littler winning four of his last six Premier League matches by three or more legs, plus the dismal form of Bunting this year, siding with Littler -2.5 leg handicap at 13/25 on BetMGM is our best bet of the week.

Extra tips

Nathan Aspinall to average over 95.5 against Michael Van Gerwen – 5/6 (BetMGM)

As mentioned, Aspinall returned to form last week and this should give him a major confidence boost ahead of a clash against Van Gerwen.

Facing the three-time world champion will bring out Aspinall’s best, which means an average of 95.5 or above is more than achievable.

Gerwyn Price to beat Rob Cross  – 8/11 (BetMGM)

Price arguably should have won the match between the pair in Cardiff, missing a dart at double 18 to seal victory.

He will be fired up to avenge this defeat and a price of 8/11 seems rather generous.

Odds correct at the time of writing.
