The women’s Euros 2025 favourites

After their World Cup success in late 2023, and as the second-highest ranked national team on the planet according to FIFA, the Spanish come into this tournament as hot favourites, available at no bigger than 2/1 to collect a second consecutive major trophy.

Here’s how things currently stand at the head of the outright betting market with Betway.

  • Spain - 2/1
  • England - 4/1
  • Germany - 5/1
  • France - 11/2

As the bookmakers see it, there are only really four teams capable of laying down serious challenges at this tournament. Is this hard to argue with? Absolutely.

What we should be asking is are the four market leaders priced accurately? For my money, the answer is no. The Spaniards deserve to be favourites, sure.

They are the world champions, while they are the best team in the competition according to the FIFA rankings, though you can definitely make a case for them being on the skinny side at 2/1.

But are short-priced value picks really worth the juice they squeeze? You could argue that the Germans are quite generously priced at odds of 5/1. More on that later.

For the English, odds of 4/1 may also be a little too short. Has Sarina Wiegman’s squad got any stronger since that World Cup final defeat? Definitely not. If anything, it looks a little weaker.

While as decent as the French are, and they are useful, I’m really not sure they’ve got enough cutting edge to get the job done in the biggest games, leaving me to conclude that 5/1 also offers a lack of value for money.

Making a case for Germany

I’ll get right to it and say that I really do rate the Germans as a cracking outright bet all the time odds of 5/1 are on offer. For my money, they should be clear second favourites and they ought to be priced a decent bit shorter.

For the last year or so, the Germans have been simmering and they may now be coming to the boil at exactly the right time.

Last summer, we saw Die Mannschaft reach the semi-finals at the Olympics in Paris, where they pushed the highest ranked team in the world (USA) all the way to extra time, losing by the narrowest of margins.

The manner in which they competed with the best in the business there suggests that they ought to be feared by everybody ahead of the Euros.

Moreover, at the Olympics, in the third-place play-off, they got the better of the Spanish, delivering a wonderfully disciplined performance. If there’s a couple more of those efforts in reserve, then major tournament glory could be right around the corner for the women under the stewardship of Christian Wück.

We’re also talking about a team that has beaten England in recent times, which bodes well, while if we’re looking at squad strength.

It really is hard to pick holes in the Germans, who have a core of players who have a super rapport, with the likes of Lea Schuller, Sydney Lohmann, Linda Dallman, Giulia Gwinn and Klara Buhl all coming off a strong domestic season with Bayern Munich.

From a squad point of view, this really could be the sweet spot, with all of Germany’s key players currently aged between 24 and 27.

Wück’s women are also unbeaten in 2025 and have been scoring for fun, which is never a bad thing, while it’s absolutely fair to say that they look stronger than when narrowly losing to England in the final of this competition back in 2022.

The Lionesses aren’t stronger than they were then, and they aren’t stronger than they were when losing the World Cup final in late 2023. The early outright market isn’t reflecting both nations current competitiveness enough.

FIRST’s extra tips for the UEFA Women’s Euros 2025

Iceland won’t freeze on the big stage

As far as extra pre-tournament bets go, there’s certainly a lack of options, with most operators being somewhat lazy in their offerings ahead of this event.

However, we are not entirely without additional pre-tournaments betting routes.

One road that I’ll definitely be going down is ‘Iceland to qualify from Group A’. Ranked as the best team in the group according to FIFA, I think Þorsteinn Halldórsson’s women are being overlooked by the early market.

Both the Norwegians and the Swiss favoured ahead of them in the betting to reach the knockouts.

In recent times, despite not being the most frequent winners, this Iceland team has shown a clear ability to grind out results, so they should be suited to the nature of tournament football.

While they’ve also avoided defeat against both Switzerland and Norway in 2025, bettering the tournament hosts (in Switzerland) in all areas when the pair met back in February.

If you want to stay clear of the outright market then you may want to look at some prop bets across the tournament including how to bet on corners as well as finding the edge with booking points

Women’s Euros 2025 golden boot market

The golden boot market is interesting, especially as most firms have been far from proactive in their pricing for this. Most bookies still don’t have a market, but of those that do, Spain striker Esther Gonzalez is the favourite at 6/1.

Here’s what the head of the golden boot market with BetMGM looks like at the time of writing:

PlayerNationOdds
Esther GonzalezSpain6/1
Sandy BaltimoreFrance8/1
Alessia RussoEngland8/1
Lea SchullerGermany9/1
Mariona CaldenteySpain9/1
Ada HegerbergNorway13/1
Klara BuhlGermany14/1
Beth MeadEngland16/1
Caroline Graham HansenNorway16/1
Bar18/1

Gotham FC’s Esther Gonzalez, who enters the tournament having scored 10 in 12 during the current NWSL season, is a worthy favourite, but the bookies aren’t doing us any favours by offering odds of 6/1.

Looking at the odds, the same can be said for both Alessia Russo and Sandy Baltimore too. Is there a player being offered at a slightly generous price, though? For my money, the answer is yes.

FIRST’s top tip for the Women’s Euros golden boot 2025

Schuller to score for fun

Clearly, I’m quite sweet on the Germans at the prices, and I must say that I’m equally sweet on Lea Schuller, who shouldn’t be as big as 9/1.

At the very least, if Russo and Baltimore are 8/1 shots, then so is Schuller, who at the age of 27, has reached her peak as a poacher, scoring 11 goals in 12 qualifying and UEFA Nations League games in the last year.

Schuller also bagged three in five at the Olympics last summer, performing like a player who was ready to explode into scoring life at the next major tournament.

The forward comes off the back of a fine domestic season, while she has a fantastic relationship with most of the key creators in this team, with players such as Klara Buhl and Giulia Gwinn being Bayern regulars too.

All in all, leading the line for a German side that ought to create lots of chances, especially during the groups, Schuller, who averages 0.67 goals per 90 minutes at the 2024 Olympics, looks a little generously priced at 9/1.

FIRST’s top tip: Lea Schuller to be top scorer - 9/1 (BetMGM)
