Liverpool vs PSV tips and predictions: Goals at both ends on the cards at Anfield

Liverpool state of play

Everyone knows that for Arne Slot and Liverpool, the 2025/26 Premier League campaign has been bitterly disappointing. The Reds have failed massively to match the lofty levels that they set last season, so much so that they find themselves trailing behind in the title race.

Fortunately, on the continent, it’s been a little steadier for Wednesday’s hosts, who find themselves in the all-important top eight. In fact, the best UK bookmakers currently have them at 7/1 to win the trophy for a seventh time.

This campaign, they’ve won three games and lost one. Sure, that loss, which came against Galatasaray in Istanbul, was a disappointing one, but in general, Slot’s men have been strong in Europe, most recently defeating Real Madrid with a sturdy display.

PSV state of play

For PSV, the continental picture is a little less bright, with the men from Eindhoven currently sitting in a less favourable position as far as qualification for the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League goes.

In comparison to Liverpool's odds, Champions League betting sites put PSV at 150/1 to go the whole distance.

Wednesday’s visitors have won just one of their four games, but it’s not as if they’ve been regularly getting rolled over, losing only one out of four.

That loss came against Union SG on matchday one, and since then, Peter Bosz’s men have improved, going three games unbeaten in this competition, impressively beating Napoli. Such an effort should mean that they head to Anfield feeling fairly upbeat.

Key talking point: Forward output outwaying defensive security for both

The Reds score goals, and they certainly have lots of forward quality, though let’s be honest, it’s been a defensive shambles from Arne Slot’s men this season. They’ve conceded far too many goals, recording only one clean sheet in three UCL games.

The visitors have also been hot in the forward areas, scoring in all four of their UCL games, bagging a total of ten goals. But they’re yet to keep a clean sheet, while they’ve also been frequently conceding in the Eredivisie, which doesn’t exactly point towards them defending with any confidence at Anfield.

FIRST.com’s top tip - Liverpool vs PSV

Pick: Both Teams to score - 8/11 - (betway)

I’m really not sure that the early market is accurately reflecting the chances of at least one goal for both teams here.

We know that the Reds have the tools to hurt a PSV defence that is far from sturdy. But the visitors have been in fine scoring form in Europe this season.

While they are strong on the break, which should worry the hell out of a home defence that continues to struggle to guard against the counter.

FACT: Both teams have found the net in 100% of PSV’s UEFA Champions League games this season.

Pick: Dennis Man to Score - 13/2 - (10bet)

At odds of 13/2, I also can’t resist opting for visiting forward Dennis Man to notch. Frankly, given his efforts in general this season, the direct and far from shy-to-shoot Man looks overpriced at 13/2.

After all, we’re talking about a player who has two UCL goals under his belt already this term, while he offers a clear angle of attack on the break, and that bodes well given Liverpool’s defensive struggles.

Team news

The hosts are expected to continue without the services of Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong for this match, though Arne Slot has an otherwise fully fit squad to select from.

For the visitors, there are a couple of notable absentees. Promising youngster, Ruben van Bommel, who made a pleasing start to the season, is out with a knee injury, while experienced forward Alassane Plea is also sidelined at present.
