Manchester United state of play
Manchester United cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over rivals Manchester City in the semi-final at the Joie Stadium in April.
First-half goals from Celin Ildhusoy and Grace Clinton gave the away side a lead they never looked likely to surrender and set up a final against Chelsea that will see United aim to retain the trophy they won last season.
“To get back to a final is no mean feat, so I’m really pleased,” said United boss Marc Skinner. “The performance today was incredible. Credit to the players, we dominated. It should’ve been more.”
But United’s league form since that crucial win over an admittedly injury-weakened City side has left plenty to be desired, with two losses and two draws from their last four fixtures.
The Red Devils showed commendable spirit in defeat last week, however, as they fought back from 4-1 down to give Arsenal a scare in a seven-goal thriller.
Chelsea state of play
The Blues remain the standard setters in the top flight of the women’s game in England. Chelsea have romped to an eighth WSL title in 11 years this season without suffering a single defeat.
In fact, Sonia Bompastor’s side dropped only six points throughout the campaign, held to a draw just three times.
After a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Liverpool in their semi-final last month, they will now look to add a sixth FA Cup triumph in that same time period.
Chelsea have also already bagged the League Cup this term, meaning they’re playing for a domestic treble this weekend.
“I’m really excited to be at Wembley, with the chance to play for a trophy that has so much history attached to it, and for us to try and finish what has been an incredible season by winning the treble,” Bompastor said.
Key talking point: Can United turn around their slumping WSL form?
Without a win in their last four league games, it will take a monumental effort from United to be able to oust unbeaten Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
But the blueprint for victory was established last season when Skinner’s side beat the Blues at the semi-final stage in the same competition. Can they spring another upset?

Team news
Full-back Jayde Riviere and centre-forward Rachel Williams missed United’s last game through injury but could be in contention to return. Defender Aoife Mannion will be back from suspension.
Long term injury absentees Brooke Aspin, Sophie Ingle, Jorja Fox and Lauren James will remain out for Chelsea, but there is faint hope that Maya Ramirez and Sam Kerr could be fit enough to feature in some capacity.
