Ed Quigley has been in scintillating form so far this week, with two winners in the bag, including at York on Thursday, in his first week on the job. Our man serves up his strongest fancies for the action at Newbury, and has his eyes on one at Uttoxeter's evening meeting...

WAVE RIDER heads into much deeper waters for the London Gold Cup Handicap, but looks up to the task in my view.

The salient point is the trip - Harry Charlton's representative has raced exclusively over 7f so far, and on all three occasions he has shaped like a big step up in trip would suit, so therefore he looks tailor-made for this 10f assignment.

From a pedigree standpoint, it would marry nicely with the visual perspective as he is related to a whole host of middle-distance performers, so you would think this greater test of stamina can only enhance his claims.

He has improved with each run, and went agonisingly close at Wolverhampton last time out, where it looked as though he only really hit top gear inside the final 100 yards. Settling over this longer trip will be key, which I imagine is why connections have deployed the hood on this 3-year-old.

Harry Charlton trained the winner of this race 12 months ago, so he knows the type needed to get the job done here, and I think a big run from Wave Rider will be on the cards.

Elmonjed - Newbury 3.45 (4/1 odds)

ELMONJED is a lightly-raced 4-year-old who thrives on a quick surface, and we should be able to see the William Haggas-trained son of Blue Point at his best here.

He was progressive last term, winning his last two starts of the campaign as he moved through the handicap ranks. He was fourth on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket a month ago, a race which should see him strip a lot fitter for today's outing in mind.

Elmonjed was a little uneasy in the market and ran like a horse who would benefit greatly from that outing.

The blinkers he normally wears were left off last time out, but are back here, so I expect a much sharper individual this time around. William Haggas is in flying form, operating north of 30% as a strike-rate for May, and to see Elmonjed winning once again would be far from a shock with the evergreen Jim Crowley on board.

Champagnesuperover - Uttoxeter 6.30

Olly Murphy could train a rocking horse to win at the moment, and with the yard continuing to operate in such fine fettle, it wouldn't be a surprise if CHAMPAGNESUPEROVER got back to winning ways in this 3m Handicap Chase.

At the time of writing, Murphy was operating at a remarkable 47% in May, with top pilot Sean Bowen on the majority of those, and he is on board once again.

Champagnesuperover won two starts ago at Haydock when Bowen was in the saddle, and then was runner-up in a tactical match race around Fakenham last time out.

It didn't look as though the 10-year-old was totally in love with the drop back in trip around Fakenham's tight course. This looks a much more suitable assignment as he steps back up in distance returning to handicap company.

This trainer/jockey combination is potent at the moment, and we can see the gelding back in the winner's circle here.

Don't forget Ed will be back next Tuesday where Southwell and Nottingham will come under the spotlight...
