Newcastle vs Tottenham tips and predictions: Thomas Frank attempts to rise against the pressure
Newcastle state of play
Newcastle have tended to blow hot and cold so far this season, which is reflected by the fact that they have won six and lost four of their previous 10 outings in all competitions.
However, Eddie Howe’s men have won their past two Premier League fixtures in impressive fashion.

The Magpies defeated Man City and followed it up with a dominant 4-1 win against Everton this past weekend, showcasing the attacking qualities of the team.
However, those results sandwiched a disappointing loss against Marseille in the Champions League, as Newcastle continued to search for consistency.
Tottenham state of play
With just two wins in their previous 10 games in all competitions, pressure is starting to mount for new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, who isn’t having the easiest experience since joining from Brentford in the summer.
After a dismal derby day against Arsenal, Spurs followed it up with a 5-3 defeat against PSG, and a frustrating performance at home against Fulham.

Marco Silva’s side scored twice in the opening six minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, putting the game beyond Frank’s team from the start.
A Mohammed Kudus goal was only a consolation in the end as Fulham won 2-1 at the weekend, with Tottenham fans continuing to voice their displeasure.
Key talking point: Both sides in a must not lose scenario
Both teams will be heading into this match underwhelmed by how they’ve started the season. As sitting in the bottom half of the table is way below expectations given the European ambitions they have.
With only goal difference separating them right now there is plenty of pressure on this one, as slipping further down the league heading into the busy festive period is the last thing either team wants.
Newcastle will take confidence from having already beaten Tottenham at the end of October in the EFL Cup, but with so much on the line in this clash, there will be an element of cautiousness from both.
It’s a fixture that neither team will want to lose, but playing safe is also a risk as Newcastle and Tottenham have proven to be wildly unpredictable this season.
FIRST.com’s top tip - Newcastle vs Tottenham
Newcastle haven’t lost at St. James’ Park since their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in September.
Given Tottenham’s poor run of form lately, it’s hard to look past the Magpies taking all three points.

Team news
Newcastle could be without Nick Pope due to his groin issue, while Kieran Trippier is unlikely to face his former team because of a hamstring injury.
Sven Botman could be available after a recent back issue, but William Osula and Yoane Wissa are expected to miss out.
Cristian Romero will return from suspension for the visitors, but Tottenham have a long injury list. James Maddison, Radu Dragusin, Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke are all sidelined.
