Exeter - 1.26 Madaket

MADAKET represents the in-form Hobbs and White team, and this lightly-raced Chaser looks to have every opportunity of getting off the mark for the first time over fences.

He shaped nicely at Ffos Las last time out when finishing third, where he was much more sure-footed over his fences, and can build upon that effort. The handicapper has also dropped him a pound for that effort, and with the yard amongst the winners lately, he can take advantage of calmer waters here.

Madaket is versatile in regard to underfoot conditions, so everything should be in place at the West Country venue for a bold show from this gelding. I like his claims for the Minehead maestro.

Exeter - 2.01 Luttrell Lad e/w

Luttrell Lad has been a little frustrating in recent times, but has had some solid races in defeat. This looks like a decent chance to get his head back in front for the Tom Lacey team, who have had a couple of winners in the last week.

From a mark of 122, he is now only 1lb higher than when last successful, and Alice Stevens is on board, claiming 5lb. He has a solid body of work over the last couple of seasons, and he could easily get involved at the business end of proceedings of this Class 3 assignment.

The tongue tie and visor are retained, and if he can run to the form he showed when beaten on the line at Newton Abbot two starts ago, he has to close here, dropping down in trip.

Punchestown - 3.00 Heart Wood e/w

We have an absolute stellar renewal of the John Durkan Chase, where you have a who's who of Irish superstars locking horns. Three of the best Chasers in training command plenty of respect, as Gaelic Warrior, Fact To File, and reigning Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin are all set to battle it out.

Gauging fitness levels will be hard, with many in here using this as a springboard to bigger targets further down the line. One horse who should be fit and ready to fire is the Henry De Bromhead-trained HEART WOOD, who arrives on the back of a win in a Grade 3 here last month, and should be spot-on for this assignment.

He is still relatively unexposed, and if there are any chinks in the armour of the market protagonists, he could easily cash in. It is also worth noting that on what should be testing ground, he will be happier than others with this drop in trip.

Darragh O'Keeffe takes the ride and they look the each-way angle.
