WTA Queen's Club betting preview: Vekic to return to form on the grass
The Queen's Club Championships is one of the oldest and most popular events on the tennis calendar.
Established in 1889, the tournament is steeped in tradition. For the first time since 1973, a women’s singles competition was held at the grass courts in West Kensington.

With 500 ranking points available to the winner, the iconic event provides the players with a chance to get attuned to the grass after spending the last two months on clay.
It is also a valuable opportunity to improve their seeding for Wimbledon, which gets underway on 30 June.
The favourites
Queen’s has drawn a strong field for its return to the WTA schedule. Eight of the world’s top 16 women are in attendance, plus the reigning Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova.
Elena Rybakina has an excellent record in England and is the 9/4 favourite this week. The Kazakhstani player triumphed at the All England Club in 2022 and has achieved quarter-final and semi-final berths in her two subsequent visits.
Her game is in fine shape too - she clinched a WTA 500 title in Strasbourg last month and came within a whisker of upsetting Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros.
The 25-year-old is one of the women to beat not only at Queen’s, but also at SW19, where she was odds-on for victory a year ago before suffering a surprise defeat to Krejcikova in the last four.
Madison Keys is next in the betting at 4/1, and is rightly respected in the market given her three previous grass court tournament successes in the UK. The American has long been touted as a potential Wimbledon champion, yet surprisingly, she has only reached the quarter-finals twice.
Qinwen Zheng is the highest-ranked woman in the field and follows Keys closely in the odds at 5/1. The talented young Chinese star has lots to prove on grass, though, having exited Wimbledon in round one in each of the last two years.
FIRST’s top tip for WTA Queen's Club
Donna Vekic has underwhelmed since making the Wimbledon semi-finals and the gold-medal match at the Olympic Games last summer.
However, a surface switch could spark something in the Croatian, who has five career WTA Tour finals to her name on the grass.
She prepared well for the All England Club in 2023 and 2024, progressing to WTA 500 finals in Germany in both years.
Pick: Donna Vekic (each-way) to win WTA Queen’s - 30/1 (BetMGM)
Extra tips
Vekic’s conqueror in Bad Homburg last year was Diana Shnaider, who put four singles trophies in her cabinet in 2024 and will be keen to get off the mark this term.
The Russian saw off Paula Badosa and Emma Navarro en route to her maiden grass court title, and should be taken seriously on this surface.
Pick: Diana Shnaider (each-way) to win WTA Queen’s - 25/1 (Betway)
Beatriz Haddad Maia completed the Nottingham and Birmingham double in June 2022, highlighting her suitability for grass.
The big-hitting left-hander opens her campaign against 35-year-old Petra Kvitova, who has lost seven of her last eight matches.
It is a relatively soft section of the draw, with the out-of-form third seed Emma Navarro potentially vulnerable.
Pick: Beatriz Haddad Maia (each-way) to win WTA Queen’s - 50/1 (BetMGM)
ATP BOSS Open betting preview: Zverev a weak favourite on home turf
The Stuttgart Open, sponsored by Hugo Boss since 2022, boasts an illustrious roll of honour.
Rafael Nadal captured three tournaments at the Tennis Club Weissenhof, while Roger Federer prevailed in 2018, claiming what would become the penultimate grass-court title of his legendary career.
Jack Draper secured his first ATP Tour trophy at this event a year ago and has since added ATP 500 and Masters 1000 victories to his CV. The contenders in Germany this week will be hoping for a similar trajectory.
The favourites
It was a familiar story for Alexander Zverev at the latest Grand Slam, as he surrendered a winning position in the French Open quarter-final against Novak Djokovic, losing in four sets.
The German has not had much success on grass, reaching just one final on the surface all the way back in 2017. Yet the world number three is as short as 13/8 to come out on top in his home country.
Taylor Fritz has stronger grass court claims, winning the Eastbourne International three times throughout his career, including in July 2024. The 4/1 about the American makes more sense than backing Zverev.
Ben Shelton rounds off the trio of favourites at 5/1. He has previously said that grass should suit his game, and he is right about that, but until he proves that at an event such as this, he is an easy swerve at single-figure odds.
FIRST’s top tip for the ATP BOSS Open
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard made the Wimbledon main draw as a lucky loser last year, and took full advantage, becoming the first lucky loser to reach the fourth round since 1995.
His thunderous serves make him a force on grass, and with some doubts over those at the top of the market, the Frenchman appeals as an each-way shout.
Pick: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (each-way) to win the ATP BOSS Open - 16/1 (Ladbrokes)

Extra tips
It is not an easy draw for Brandon Nakashima, starting off against the up-and-coming Jacob Fearnley while also being in Zverev’s quarter. Still, it’s a big price for a man who fared pretty well on the grass last summer, getting to semi-finals in Surbiton and Stuttgart.
Pick: Brandon Nakashima (each-way) to win the ATP BOSS Open - 40/1 (Betway)
Roman Safiullin advanced to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon on his All England Club debut two years ago.
He scored decent wins over Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Machac at the 2024 Championships, too, before losing out in five sets to the highly-rated Arthur Fils.
Safiullin pushed powerhouse Matteo Berrettini very close at this tournament last year, and is worth a small each-way interest this time around.
Pick: Roman Safiullin (each-way) to win the ATP BOSS Open - 50/1 (BetMGM)
