Emiliano Martinez next club odds: Is a move to Man Utd or Athletico Madrid on the cards?

Aston Villa’s need to sell their star players is eased by the impending departure of Jacob Ramsey. The English attacker, who came through the Villa Park ranks, will count as pure profit for the Villans, who need to make sales to remain within PSR guidelines following their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

One of the more sellable assets on the books is Emiliano Martinez. The Argentine has been linked with a summer exit, though Villa head into the season with the World Cup winner as first choice between the sticks. There is still plenty of time to go between now and the close of the transfer window, however, and it may be that Martinez departs for pastures new before the September 1st deadline.

With a desire for top tier European football, Martinez may fancy a new challenge elsewhere, and we’ve run through the best bookmaker odds in the UK for the former Arsenal’s man’s next club.

Aston Villa – 1/5 (bet365)

Having been as long as 9/4 previously, Martinez is now at 1/5 with bet365 to remain at Villa Park. After all, why wouldn’t he stay in the Midlands? He’s loved by supporters and seemingly happy to continue under Unai Emery.

He still has four years left to run on his current deal, which hinders any potential sale, and while only 32 years of age – spritely for a goalkeeper – potential suitors may favour a younger model.

Manchester United – 10/3 (bet365)

Manchester United would love nothing more to strengthen between the sticks. Ruben Amorim’s side have invested heavily in attack, adding Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to the ranks.

However, United could do a lot worse than target a new shotstopper as they look to launch a sustained push for silverware in Amorim’s first full season at Old Trafford. Andre Onana is not a favourite at Old Trafford having committed a number of high-profile gaffes following his arrival from Inter in 2023.

While it remains to be seen whether United follow up interest in Martinez, especially with Carlos Baleba the priority, but a move to Old Trafford is currently at 10/3 with bet365.

Any South American or German side – 12/1 (BetVictor)

Could a return to South America be on the cards for Martinez? The Argentina international started his career at Independiente in 2008 before moving to Arsenal in 2010. While few, if any, could afford the Villa shotstopper at present, a swansong return to his homeland is currently available at 12/1 with BetVictor.

So, too, is a switch to any German side. Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in Martinez, who have two top quality goalkeepers on the books in Manuel Neuer and Jonas Urbig, though the former, who turns 40 next March, is very much in the twilight years of his career. Urbig, meanwhile, is almost half his compatriot’s age, so Martinez could well be viewed as a goalkeeper to bridge the gap between old and young.

Atletico Madrid – 7/2 (Coral)

Atletico Madrid don’t necessarily need a new goalkeeper, with Jan Oblak still widely regarded as one of the best in the business, yet the Spanish giants are at 16/1 with bet365 to be Martinez’s next club.

BetVictor, though, have Martinez as short as 4/1 to be an Atletico player by the time the transfer closes, while he’s at 7/2 to move to Spain with Coral. Maybe they know something we don’t? Either way, Los Colchoneros aren’t in the market for a new shotstopper as they look to really challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid for the La Liga title.

Any Saudi Arabian side – 5/1 (Ladbrokes)

A move to Saudi Arabia remains on the cards for Martinez, with reports last month suggesting he has an offer on the table from a Saudi Pro League side. As a possible transfer to United continues to stall, the Argentine could well be tempted to move to the Middle East.

The Saudi Pro League transfer window doesn’t close until September 10th, over a week after the European window slams shut, giving the goalkeeper ample opportunity to secure a lucrative switch. A move to any Saudi side is currently at 16/1 with bet365, but also at 5/1 with both Ladbrokes and Coral.

Chelsea – 16/1 (Virgin Bet)

Chelsea have been credited with an interest in numerous goalkeepers this summer. The Blues were in for Mike Maignan earlier in the year, while Gianluigi Donnarumma was another briefly on the club’s radar.

While interest looks to have cooled in Martinez, injury to either Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen between now and the close of the transfer window could force the west London side into the market for a goalkeeper. While 16/1 with Virgin Bet to make the move to Stamford Bridge, a summer switch to Chelsea is also as short as 5/1 with Bet Victor. Given the Blues’ scattergun approach to the transfer window, can this really be ruled out?
