Marc Guehi next club odds - Liverpool 4/5 favourites to sign

Liverpool haven’t been shy about splashing the cash so far this transfer window. The Reds have already brought in Florian Wirtz for a club record transfer fee of £116m. They have also paid out an additional £75m enlisting Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Armin Pecsi, while Freddie Woodman has joined on a free transfer.

The Anfield outfit have mitigated some of these costs with the sales of Caoimhin Kelleher and Nat Phillips, while Real Madrid paid a £10m fee to take Trent Alexander-Arnold a month early.

Most recently, centre-back Jarell Quansah has been sold to Bayer Leverkusen for just over £30m, but, according to reports, the departure of Quansah means Slot is now in the market for a new centre-back, and his attention has turned to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. All parties seem to have some interest in a deal.

Liverpool would be willing to pay up to £45m, including bonuses, while Guehi has said that he is open to speaking to the Merseyside club. Initially, Palace said they would be happy with the fee touted by Liverpool.

However, negotiations are far from over. More recently, Palace have seemingly increased their valuation of the player, believing they can get more out of Liverpool, who, for their part, have said they are not willing to go above the £45m mark.

Palace do have to be cautious. Guehi only has 12 months remaining on his contract and has indicated he is not willing to sign a new deal. If they fail to agree on a transfer, Palace could see Guehi leave for nothing next summer.

Although a deal is not yet complete, bookmakers believe it is more likely than not. Guehi is priced at 4/5 to become a Liverpool player by the start of next season, and has a price of 13/8 to still be playing at Palace. At the end of June the odds were 4/7 for Guehi to sign to Liverpool.

Although other clubs are said to have some slight interest, they look unlikely to compete with the champions, with Newcastle, Tottenham, and Chelsea having been given prices of 9/1, 14/1, and 16/1 respectively.

The Eagles paid around £20m for Guehi when then manager Patrick Vieira made the England international his third signing for the club. Having been on Chelsea’s books at the time, Guehi enjoyed successful loan spells at Swansea and starred for the England U21s.

Chelsea would reportedly receive 20% of any transfer fee and have the right of first refusal, meaning they could match any offer made for the defender. For his part, Guehi is believed to prefer a move to Anfield, though.

In light of his possible departure, Crystal Palace have been looking for a suitable replacement, and according to reports, they have cast their gaze on defender Ousmane Diomande – a £47m Ivorian centre-back who would seemingly be a straight replacement for Guehi, if he leaves.
