IMAGO Cameron Young and two more players that look the best value at the 2025 Ryder Cup

The world of elite-level golf is all about an every-man-for-himself attitude, but once every two years, the individual mindset is replaced with a collective approach. That’s right, it’s time for the Ryder Cup, where the best US players take on the best of the bunch in Europe.

On Friday, it’s off to Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York, where the Black Course will host the most unique golfing event of them all.

This market is currently headed by Russell Henley at odds of 15/8, and I’m not exactly saying that Henley shouldn’t be the favourite, though I am questioning, and strongly at that, whether or not the man from Georgia should be quite as short as 15/8. Given that he’s seemingly got strong competition for the title of ‘Top Rookie’, I think such odds are a little on the skinny side.

Henley is the only rookie to have played the Black Course and Bethpage competitively before, so you could argue that he has an advantage there, though he didn’t exactly thrive finishing 48th at The Barclays back in 2016.

Who wins? The odds and value plays ahead of the 2025 Ryder Cup

Young will have to prove that he can cope with the test in Farmingdale, but I really wouldn’t be surprised if he does. His approach should lend itself to Ryder Cup golf, ranking as one of the best scorers on the PGA Tour this season, while his putter has been known to go red-hot too.

What’s more, it’s not like he’s a player out of form. In fact, the world number 20 has been in superb form ahead of this test, posting a win and two additional top-five finishes in his last five starts, finishing no worse than t5 during that time.

Clearly his game is in great condition right now, and I’m betting on him to hit the ground running in his maiden appearance in this fantastic event.

Ben Griffin top rookie points scorer (9/2 - William Hill)

This may seem counterproductive given the above, though I really do think that Henley is too short at the top of the market, so it’s worth taking a two-dart approach, and like Young, Ben Griffin looks a little generously priced.

Like Young, Griffin has been in great form in recent months, so much so that he’s climbed to number 11 in the world rankings. Last time out, he finished second, while he has three top-ten finishes in his last five PGA Tour events, finishing T11 or better in each of his last six.

Additionally, on the PGA Tour this season, only four players rank above Griffin for strokes gained: total, so he can absolutely mix it with the best in the business.

Tommy Fleetwood top European points scorer (6/1 - Betway)

If you’ve ever read anything of mine on FIRST before, you’ll know that I’m all about trying to sniff out value, and for my money, the value lies fairly and squarely with Tommy Fleetwood here.

McIlroy is favoured at the head of this market, but I think strong support for the Northern Irishman has left Fleetwood available at a price that is just too big to ignore.

Sure, both Rahm and McIlroy are entitled to be where they are in the betting, but let’s face it, neither can quite match Fleetwood’s Ryder Cup record, with the Englishman winning 66.7% of his potential points at previous renewals.

Only Robert MacIntrye from the 2025 team has a better record, though he’s only made one previous Ryder Cup appearance, so I’m not paying too much attention to that.

Of the proven performers, Fleetwood is the top dog, given that he’s had one of the best seasons of his career, ranking as the second-best player on the PGA Tour for strokes gained: total behind Scottie Scheffler, 6/1 really does look too big.
