Ted’s Treble: Newcastle and Newbury make up the Saturday selection

It's a blockbuster day of action on Saturday as we see the return of Constitution Hill at Newcastle, and the Coral Gold Cup heads to Newbury.

Ed Quigley has been firing in winners from all angles this week, and he serves up his best three wagers for what promises to be a brilliant afternoon.

FRENCH SHIP is a progressive sort who could easily be better than a mark of 136. He looks versatile in regards to underfoot requirements and cruised to victory here last month.

On his penultimate start at Chepstow he was very unlucky to fall three out when it looked as though he got his legs in a tangle more than anything.

The Hobbs and White team have some promising types on their hands this season, and I would be surprised if we have seen the ceiling of this individual's ability, given that his form from last season is really stacking up.

This is a big day for the yard, and fingers crossed French Ship can give the yard a big boost ahead of the Coral Gold Cup. Harry Cobden takes the ride and I like the claims of this combination.

Newcastle - 2.00 The New Lion

We have a clash for the ages, as this year's renewal of the Fighting Fifth looks outrageously good.

Constitution Hill is back to try and show he is the force of old, but he is in a real battle against Cheltenham Festival and dual Grade 1 winner The New Lion, defending Champion Hurdle winner Golden Ace and Willie Mullins' unbeaten prospect Anzadam.

It is quite some race, where the roof will come off the stand if Constitutional Hill can get back to his best. However, I think he is up against it, and I like the chances of Dan Skelton-trained THE NEW LION.

He was terrific during his novice campaign, and comes in here boasting an unbeaten record and will be looking to lay down the marker as the kingpin in the 2m Hurdle division. The Gelding has to show he has the gears for the minimum trip, but I think he will, and he can get the job done in what is a race for the ages.

Newbury - 2.55 Lowry's Bar

(28/1 William Hill - five places)

This is a belter of a renewal, and you can make a convincing case for eight or nine horses landing the spoils here - it really is that competitive.

One horse who I think has unfinished business over staying trips is the Hobbs & White trained LOWRY'S BAR.

The seven-year-old was most progressive over fences last season, winning twice and motoring 18lb up the ratings.

The end of the season ended on a downer when he burst a blood vessel at Kempton, but he is back now fresh and well and open to further improvement with a proper test of stamina.

He is very happy operating with cut in the ground, so any rain that arrives at Newbury won't be an inconvenience at all. It is great to see the Hobbs team back firing on all cylinders with a good bunch of youngsters, and Lowry's Bar fits the bill for a horse with untapped potential.
