Newmarket - 1.50 War Hawk (11/2 Ladbrokes)

This is a competitive looking 10f Handicap, with my preference going to the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained WAR HAWK, who has been really going through the gears lately, and comes into this in search of a hat-trick. The penny seems to have really dropped for the gelding who has been in fine fettle.

A winner two starts ago off a mark of 79, he followed up when getting the job done in a rough race at Epsom off 84. The accessor is having their say, as War Hawk is now sailing into this off an official rating of 89, but given the fact this horse is clearly thriving, further progress looks a likely outcome.

The services of Ryan Moore have been acquired for this assignment, and this combination gets the vote from me to get into the winners' enclosure once again. Underfoot conditions should be fine - I like their chances.

Newmarket - 3.35 Crimson Advocate (7/2 Coral)

The progressive CRIMSON ADVOCATE has been going from strength to strength lately, and looks to have the chance to add Group 1 honours to her CV. She was a comfortable victor at Group 2 level last time out when scoring at Royal Ascot, seeing off Cinderella's Dream in decisive fashion.

The Charlie Appleby representative is 3lb better off with Crimson Advocate this time around, but I wouldn't be sure that the form will be turned around with the Wathnan runner looking in superb form at present, and the potential for much more to come.

James Doyle will be on board the four-year-old who may just have too much for her rivals on this occasion, with the prospect of fast ground a big tick in the box. John & Thady Gosden have been amongst the winners in recent times, and can add to their tally with this unexposed sort in what should be a cracker of a top-flight race.

Newmarket - 4.45 Brave Mission - (3/1 Betway)

On the face of it, it would appear that the step up to a stiff mile didn't work for BRAVE MISSION when finishing mid-division in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot, and should be much more in his comfort zone tackling 7f once more now, easing in Grade for this Class 3 assignment.

The Ralph Beckett string continue to operate at a healthy strike-rate of around 20% for July. The son of Frankel has only had five starts, winning once, and it also has to be factored in that the hurly burly of 30 runners at a big jamboree like Royal Ascot could have been too much for this inexperienced individual, and having been eased 1lb, this looks a far more suitable assignment, with the benefit of that experience under his belt.

He has a touch of class, and should find things easier in these calmer waters. I think he still has the propensity to be well-handicapped off a mark of 91, and with the excellent Colin Keane on board, there could easily be more to come.
