IMAGO Casper Ruud celebrates winning in Madrid last week. Can the Norwegian go deep in the tournament in Rome too?

The return of home favourite Jannik Sinner will be making all the headlines in Rome this week, as the best in the world line up for the Italian Open.

In what is the final 1000 event on both the ATP and WTA Tours before the French Open, getting fully into the groove on the clay will be the key focus for every player in both draws.

Aryna Sabalenka’s dominance on the WTA Tour of late makes her the one to watch in the women’s event while there is a very open feel to the men’s draw, fresh off the back of Casper Ruud’s title win in Madrid last week - in which we tipped the Norwegian to make the final of

Precious ranking points and prize money are on the line once again here in the Italian capital and it should be another showstopper of a tournament in Rome.

Jasmine Paolini

Home support will be fired up to the max here in Rome and Italian native Jasmine Paolini will be backed to the hilt by the passionate support on display.

Despite crashing out early in Madrid last week, Paolini has reached the last four in her two previous events prior to that (Stuttgart and Miami), where she came up short against Aryna Sabalenka on both occasions.

Having won the doubles here in Rome last season, Paolini knows what success tastes like in her home event and he has a decent-looking draw this week.

Seeded sixth, she has some decent draw protection, and she’ll need to look out for the likes of Jelena Ostapenko and Jessica Pegula.

But Paolini looks decent value at 5/2 with BetMGM to win her quarter and reach the semi-finals here in Rome.

World number one Jannik Sinner returns to action under a bit of a doping cloud here in Rome but there is no doubting his credentials to succeed in this event.

His hiatus from competitive tennis however could prove to be his undoing though, with Sinner himself even stating in the pre-tournament build-up that he is unsure where his game is at.

Housed in the top quarter of the draw along with recent Madrid Open champion Ruud, it could be a chastening return to action for Sinner.

In addition to the in-form Ruud, fellow Italian hope Matteo Berrettini is housed in the top quadrant. As are clay court specialists Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Francesco Cerundolo.

Writing off Sinner is always dangerous but we’re backing Casper Ruud to win the top quarter of the draw here in Rome at 3/1 with Mr.Play.

Coco Gauff

With Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek dominating the headlines on the WTA Tour of late, Coco Gauff has begun to sneak under the radar a touch.

However, the American remains in fantastic form and her demolition of Swiatek on the clay in Madrid last week felt like a big moment for her.

She ultimately came up short in the final against Sabalenka, but her game is continually improving, and she will be raring to go here in Rome.

There is some peril in her quarter, with Emma Navarro and Emma Raducanu two stand out challengers but Gauff is currently in the zone on the red dirt.

Coco Gauff looks great value at 4/1 with ZetBet to reach the final here at the Italian Open, for the first time in her career.
