US Open mixed doubles 2025 betting tips: Will exciting new format be a hit?
Despite being a staple of any tennis event worldwide, doubles very rarely makes the headlines.
The rationale for this is often due to the global interest and financial pull of singles, in both the men’s and women’s game, that doubles can sometimes fall by the wayside in terms of importance.

US Open mixed doubles - How does it work?
There are hundreds of players on both the ATP and WTA tours that play solely doubles and rarely do the line between the biggest names in singles and doubles – that is until now.
Often seen as the disruptors in the global tennis landscape, the USTA have launched a controversial yet potentially lucrative new format for the US Open mixed doubles in 2025.
Rather than a traditional 32 pair draw played out over the course of a fortnight, this year, the mixed doubles event at Flushing Meadows houses just 16 pairs and the tournament will be completed inside two days.
Matches will consist of two short sets (first to four games, rather than six), with a 10-point tie-break played in the third set if needed.
Betting on tennis underdogs: Identifying valuable underdog opportunities
The most unique innovation however has been the entry system for this incarnation of the event, with players selected on both their singles ranking and global appeal, leaving many tried and tested doubles pairings without a Grand Slam to play in at New York.
Change always pinches in top level sport and it remains to be seen whether the new format will be a success but the prospect of seeing the best singles players in both the men’s and women’s game team up and do battle, is a fascinating one.
Earlier in 2025, Entain revealed how tennis’ popularity is booming, is this just another move to jump on this hype train? In addition to the intrigue of the event is the small matter of $1 million in prize money for the winning duo, which should heighten the stakes even more at the Arthur Ashe stadium.
US Open mixed doubles - The favourites
A glance down the 16-team entry list for this event is littered with some of the biggest names in the game yet, working out which pairs will play well together is not so easy.
Chemistry and understanding is a key element in any doubles tournament, with players needing to rely on their partner to cover certain areas of the court, making communication essential.
Most of the big names in this tournament are far more accustomed to operating on their own on court, so they will need to adapt quickly to their surroundings.
The only recognised doubles pairing in the line up is the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, who are the defending US Open mixed doubles champions.
Along with many doubles specialists, they were very critical of the formatting of the new tournament, and they will be flying the flag for those who play doubles on both the men’s and women’s tour.
Both know what it takes to win Grand Slam mixed doubles events, and they start as the pair to beat in the eyes of many at 3/1 with Mr.Play.

Ones to watch
One pairing that could sneak under the radar a touch yet will carry plenty of firepower is that of Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud.
Both players have scaled the heights in the singles game, but they have both experienced a decent amount of doubles success too and they may relish having to demonstrate all of their guile with four players on the court.
Whether they can strike up a connection remains to be seen but Swiatek and Ruud could well be in the mix at 5/1 with Betway.

Another pairing that will generate plenty of attention is that of Emma Navarro and Jannik Sinner.
American Navarro is fast becoming a household name in American tennis and should get plenty of backing in her home city of New York, while Sinner is the defending men’s singles champion at Flushing Meadows.
Whether they gel on a doubles court is the key question mark but on playing credentials alone, this pairing could be electrifying, and they are well worth a look at 6/1 to win the event with ZetBet.

US Open mixed doubles - Value plays
There is such quality in each of the 16 pairs in the draw that claims can realistically be made for each and every team.
Elena Rybakina has enjoyed some success as a doubles player and she teams up with Taylor Fritz, another name who will receive plenty of backing from the home faithful in New York.
Hard hitting doesn’t always win the day on a doubles court but very few teams will be able to strike the ball as cleanly as these two, particularly off the serve.
They will need to navigate some tricky games if they are to go all the way here in the Big Apple, but they should be in the mix at 8/1 to win the tournament with BetMGM.
Home heroes
2024 US Open mixed doubles runner-up Taylor Townsend is a true doubles specialist, and she teams up with Ben Shelton here, one of four all-American duos in the draw.
While Townsend knows her way around a doubles court, Shelton remains pretty raw in most things he does – yet takes nothing away from his obvious talent.
In an open tournament and with the fast format, this is a team that could build up momentum quickly and they are worth keeping an eye on at 10/1 with Mr.Play.

Another eye-catching pairing is that of Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu – two players who have lifted the singles title here in New York.
Doubles is a different game, but this duo should attract plenty of attention, both on and off the court and if they get going, who knows what they could achieve at 12/1 with Betway.

FIRST’s top tip for the US Open mixed doubles
With such uncertainty around this draw, any of the 16 teams could prevail here in New York and it should make for compelling viewing.
Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud are two cool heads, who have a decent amount of doubles experience between them, and they could find a way to succeed here at Flushing Meadows.
Pick: Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud to win the US Open mixed doubles (outright) – 5/1 with Betway.
