US Open 2025 betting tips: Draper vs Bergs, Raducanu vs Tjen & Fonseca vs Machac
2021 men’s champion Daniil Medvedev stole the headlines for his dramatic meltdown to Benjamin Bonzi but there has been plenty of blockbuster tennis in the Big Apple so far this week.
However the in-form top seeds such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek all breezed through their first round tests.

After making our tips ahead of the tournament, and the draw inevitably being opened up as the first week progresses, the big name seeds should get some draw protection but there are some fascinating second round ties in prospect.
British hopes lie with Jack Draper, Cameron Norrie and Emma Raducanu, who all picked up impressive opening round wins, while young Brazilian superstar Joao Fonseca will be looking to go deep in a grand slam for the first time here in New York.
A place in the third round at the US Open is at stake for all involved here and it should be another action packed day at Flushing Meadows.
Jack Draper vs Zizou Bergs (Thursday)
Number five seed Jack Draper is being touted by many as one of the only men capable of stopping the Sinner and Alcaraz revolution and the British number one reached the last four in New York last year.
Injuries continue to blotch his copy book, but he looks fit and ready in 2025, and he knows he will be in for a scrap here against Zizou Bergs.
Few players on tour are more mercurial than Bergs, with the Belgian playing off his career-high ranking of 48 at Flushing Meadows and he knows he has nothing to lose.
FIRST’s top tip for Draper vs Bergs
Both of these men pride themselves on their shot making abilities and this has the makings of an absolute classic.
The pressure will be firmly ramped up on Jack Draper, who will be looking for another deep run here in New York and he has plenty of ranking points to defend too.
Betting on tennis underdogs: The strategy of risk vs reward
Bergs enjoys playing freely and could push the Brit all the way, but Draper should hold his nerve in the key moments and progress to round three.
Pick: Jack Draper to win 3 sets to 1 – 14/5 with BetMGM
Emma Raducanu vs Janice Tjen (Wednesday - 16:00)
Four years on from her historic New York triumph, Emma Raducanu returns to the US Open in some pretty decent form.
World number one Aryna Sabalanka has knocked her out of two of her last four tournaments and she is starting to develop the consistency needed to compete on every WTA Tour event.
Up next is a meeting with Janice Tjan, with the Indonesian qualifier firmly in the groove, having played four matches to reach this stage – including a gritty win over 24th seed Veronika Kudermetova last time out.
FIRST’s top tip for Raducanu vs Tjen
There is a new found confidence and swagger about Emma Raducanu and she seems to thrive in these conditions here in New York.
Tjen has enjoyed a great run, but Raducanu is looking ruthless, and she could breeze her way into round three here.
Pick: Emma Raducanu to win 2 sets to 0 – 5/6 with Betway

Joao Fonseca vs Tomas Machac (Wednesday - 17:10)
Brazilian teen sensation Joao Fonseca always draws in the crowds, and this could be a humdinger of a match here against Tomas Machac.
Seeded 21st, Machac has done the hard yards on the tour, and the Czech player will be looking for a decent scalp here at Flushing Meadows.
Fonseca knows a place in the top 32 in the world beckons with a good run here in New York though and this will be a firm test of his credentials.
FIRST’s top tip for Fonseca vs Machac
Grand Slam draws always have unseeded floaters in them and everybody will have been relieved to have avoided Fonseca – apart from Machac.
Stylistically, there isn’t much to pick between these two, who are both very creative on court and it should make for compelling viewing.
However, momentum appears to be with Fonseca at the moment, and this could be a breakout win and tournament for him here at the US Open in 2025.
