Miami Open 2025 betting tips: Can Draper follow up on Indian Wells success with Medvedev backed?
Part one of the ‘sunshine double’ is in the books, with a pair of young, up-and-coming stars taking singles honours at Indian Wells over the weekend.
Jack Draper moved up to number seven in the ATP rankings following his triumph on Sunday. Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva also rose to a career-high position, reaching number six in the world after upsetting Aryna Sabalenka to take the women’s title.

Both will be looking to complete the ‘sunshine double’, something that has only been achieved by 11 players - seven men and four women.
Novak Djokovic, who is in the field in Miami, has managed it four times. Iga Swiatek, among the favourites on the WTA side, was the last individual to win at Indian Wells and Miami in the same year (2022).
ATP draw: Djokovic on the decline
Draper and the man he beat in the Indian Wells final on Sunday, Holger Rune, could be set for a rematch in the round of 16 in Miami. They are in the same quarter as Alexander Zverev, who is the top seed for this event as world number one and 2024 champion Jannik Sinner is still serving a doping ban.
Zverev has not been at his best in recent times. He was stunned by Learner Tien in Acapulco, before falling to Tallon Griekspoor at Indian Wells.
Tournament favourite Carlos Alcaraz is in the same half of the draw as Novak Djokovic. The most decorated player on the ATP Tour won the last two meetings between the pair but has suffered three straight defeats since prevailing over his Spanish rival in Melbourne.
The 37-year-old lost his opening matches in Doha and Indian Wells. He was somewhat downbeat after losing to Botic van de Zandschulp, stating: “Every now and then, I’ve got a couple of good tournaments, but mostly it’s really difficult. We are where we are.”
Daniil Medvedev, a semi-finalist at Indian Wells last week and a Miami winner two years ago, might be better equipped to emerge from the third quarter than Djokovic.
FIRST’s top outright tip for ATP Miami Open
There are doubts over all of the men at the top of the market, including Alcaraz who was out of sorts in his defeat by Draper on Saturday.
With Djokovic and Zverev struggling, Medvedev can capitalise and lift the Miami title for the second time in three years.
Pick: Daniil Medvedev to win ATP Miami (14/1 with Ladbrokes)
WTA draw: Andreeva highly respected in the market
Sabalenka, Swiatek and Coco Gauff have been the three at the top of the betting board for all elite hardcourt tournaments as of late, but after marching to victory in Dubai and Indian Wells, Andreeva has thrown herself into that mix and is third-favourite in Miami, ahead of Gauff.
Elena Rybakina is also a shorter price than the American with some bookmakers. A Miami runner-up in 2023 and 2024.
The former Wimbledon champion enjoys the Hard Rock Stadium conditions and would not have to play Andreeva, who knocked her out of her last two tournament appearances, until the final.
If they each get through their first three matches, Rybakina could be set for a quarter-final clash with Sabalenka, who she has beaten four times in the last six head-to-heads.
Another potential mouth-watering last-eight encounter sees Swiatek projected to take on Australian Open champion, Madison Keys.
Indian Wells marked the latter’s first appearance since becoming a Grand Slam winner, and she put together a good run to the semi-finals before being well beaten by Sabalenka.
In-form Andreeva has avoided the big guns in her quarter despite being seeded 11th for this competition.
The teenager is in the same quarter as fourth seed Jessica Pegula and eighth seed Emma Navarro, neither of whom are priced below 25/1 even though they both won a title to kick off the month.
FIRST’s top outright tip for WTA Miami
Andreeva has the favourable draw but it is an incredibly big ask for her to notch a third successive title, especially given the adjustment from the slower conditions at Indian Wells to the quicker Miami surface.
Rybakina is well-suited to this venue and can win a final there at the third time of asking.
Pick: Elena Rybakina to win WTA Miami (13/1 with BetMGM)
FIRST’s top match tips for ATP and WTA Miami
Emma Raducanu offered an honest assessment of her performance after her loss to Moyuka Uchijima at Indian Wells, admitting: “I need to improve in all aspects of my game."
After suffering six defeats in seven matches, her price to beat highly-rated Japanese prodigy Sayaka Ishii looks far too short. With nothing to lose, the 19-year-old can continue her breakthrough by taking out the Brit.
Pick: Ishii to beat Raducanu (10/3 with Spreadex)
On the men’s side, Fabian Marozsan made it to the quarter-finals in Miami a year ago, scoring victories over Rune and Alex de Minaur along the way.
In round one, the Hungarian takes on Gael Monfils, who has had some physical problems as of late. At age 38, that is a concern, and even though Marozsan suffered an ankle injury at Indian Wells, he appeals in this spot as the underdog.
Pick: Marozsan to beat Monfils (7/4 with Betway)
Even when Cameron Norrie was in and around the world’s top 10, he never had much success in Miami, winning just five matches in six visits.
After bowing out in round three at Indian Wells, he entered the Cap Cana Challenger last week but was beaten by 191st-ranked Frenchman Constant Lestienne.
Yunchaokete Bu’s well-rounded game could prove awkward for Norrie, who is worth taking on here as his slide down the rankings continues.
Bu has been competitive in defeats by Taylor Fritz and Zverev this year, after seeing off Andrey Rublev last September in the biggest win of his career to date.
Pick: Bu to beat Norrie (13/10 with Betway)
Extra tip
While Andreeva is the rightful favourite in the third quarter of the women’s draw, fatigue may be a big factor and the player who might be best placed to profit from that is Amanda Anisimova.
The 23-year-old is playing the best tennis of her life after spending last year getting back up to speed following a lengthy break. Her Doha title last month was another jump on her steep upward trend.
Pick: Amanda Anisimova to win WTA Miami each-way (50/1 with BetMGM)
