IMAGO Justin Rose is a big contender to claim the Tour Championship title this week.

The PGA Tour season climaxes with the top 30 players in the FedEx rankings battling it out at the Tour Championship for the $10m (£7.4m) bonanza at East Lake Golf Club.

Scottie Scheffler added another win to his resume, taking down $3.6m (£2.66m) and the BMW Championship.

Across the water, the Betfred British Masters hosted by Nick Faldo tees off the ‘back nine’ Swing on the DP World Tour with one of Europe’s iconic venues set to hit our screens. The Brabazon course at the Belfry is a true test of traditional parklands golf.

Marco Penge won both the Danish Golf Championship and the ‘closing swing’ last week.

Tour Championship: Anyone’s game at East Lake

Last place or first place, it doesn’t matter, the FedEx Cup points are essentially reset as the top 30 players of the PGA Tour season descend upon East Lake Golf Club. They will battle it out at the Tour Championship for the top prize and winner’s cheque of £7.4m.

The Tour Championship’s starting strokes handicap has been eliminated and everyone is on an even playing field. 30th place at the Tour Championship is already guaranteed to pick up £262,000 which is not to be scoffed at.

It’s a bit of a free-roll for the year’s best golfers with all major exemptions already sewn up for 2026. $5m (£3.7m) is what second place will take home while third and fourth will bank over $3m (£2.2m) each.

Perhaps this is why favourite Scottie Scheffler (6/4 Betfred) in the Tour Championship odds is a little short. Rory McIlroy is taking up over 10% of the book at 8/1 in the betting with Betfred but he looked disinterested in his interviews at Caves Valley.

Next in the Tour Championship betting odds are Tommy Fleetwood (14/1 Betfred) and Ludvig Aberg (14/1 Betway) but both go to East Lake with question marks against them.

East Lake GC will be set up in a more risk and reward style this year and it is playing over 7,400 yards to a par 70. It’s a narrow and thickly treelined parklands track where ‘total driving’ and a top short game performance is required.

The first man to get my attention in the Tour Championship odds is Russell Henley. Henley has form at the Tour Championship with a third and fourth place to his name at East Lake in just four starts (without starting strokes).

The ‘signature event’ winner is up to fourth in the world rankings and sits seventh in the FedEx Cup standings. In his last six events his average finishing position is 12th with a best of t2 at the Travelers. He won at Bay Hill earlier in the year and Henley ranks sixth in ‘strokes gained around the green’ and 16th in Scrambling.

Sam Burns is going to win again soon and two years ago he had the fourth best scoring total over four rounds at East Lake. He was in contention again last week at the BMW Championship, eventually finishing t4.

Justin Rose is a course specialist at East Lake Golf Club. Without starting strokes being applied the Englishman has five top six finishes to his name at the Tour Championship. This includes two runner-up finishes.

There’s no better time to back Rose with the 45-year-old playing some of the best golf of his life. He won the first Playoff event, ironically in a playoff, over JJ Spaun in the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Incidentally I also like JJ Spaun’s course fit for East Lake despite the US Open Champion being a Tour Championship debutant. Spaun is third in the FedEx Cup rankings.

FIRST’s top tips for the Tour Championship

Russell Henley looks to have all the right attributes to challenge at East Lake. Back him to win the tournament at 16/1 each way (five places) with Coral.

Sam Burns is primed to win again soon. Back the American at 25/1 (four places) each way with Spreadex.

I also think there is value in the two that played off for the St. Jude Championship title. Back Justin Rose to win the Tour Championship at 50/1 (four places) each way with Spreadex.

Take JJ Spaun to win the tournament at 28/1 (four places) with Betway.

Betfred British Masters: Veerman overlooked by the bookmakers

Nick Faldo hosts the Betfred British Masters at the Belfry and Betfred are going ten places on the tournament.

There’s 5,000 Race to Dubai points for the winner and a purse of $3.5m (£2.6m). The Brabazon course at the Belfry is a pristine parklands venue playing 7,356 yards to a par 72. It’s ball strikers to the fore here!

The top of the British Masters market looks a bit lightweight with Matt Fitzpatrick and Aaron Rai sharing favouritism at 11/1 with tournament sponsor Betfred

Alex Noren is third in the betting at 16/1 with Betway. Marco Penge (18/1 with Ladbrokes) is the talk of the DP World Tour right now and he is creeping into the Ryder Cup equation.

Fellow Englishman Andy Sullivan has a good current and course form concoction ahead of the British Masters.

Sullivan has recorded three top fifteen finishes in the last five years at the Belfry and his recent form includes five top 20 finishes from his last seven starts.

Each way golf betting: The better places vs bigger prices conundrum

Compatriot Brandon Robinson Thompson should have a win under his belt this season and comes to the Belfry with progressive t35-t27 finishes.

IMAGO Marco Penge is trending in the right direction and wants to snatch a European Ryder Cup place.
IMAGO Marco Penge is trending in the right direction and wants to snatch a European Ryder Cup place.

He has been close on a few occasions in 2025, most notably in Turkey and Qatar, finishing in fourth and third position respectively.

In Bahrain, Thompson opened with a 61 to take a three-shot lead but couldn’t keep it going. He currently ranks 35th in the Race to Dubai.

Johannes Veerman is off the bookies radar for the Betfred British Masters and opened as high as 100/1 in spots.

The American ball striker recorded a top 25 last year at the Belfry. Veerman frittered away four shots in his last two holes at the Danish Golf Championship last week to drop him from a probable third place finish to tied for eighth, hence the high odds.

He has two DP World Tour wins on ball striker courses and sits 26th in the Race to Dubai.

FIRST’s top tips for the Betfred British Masters

Brabazon course specialist Andy Sullivan has found some form of late. Back Sullivan to win the tournament at 33/1 (10 places) each way with Betfred

Johannes Veerman looks overpriced for the Belfry. You can get him to win the British Masters at 75/1 (six places) each way with Spreadex.
