Joe Tizzard has an exciting blend of young horses and established stars. Ed Quigley caught up with the Dorset supremo who flagged up some of his high hopes for the season in this stable tour.

Alexei

"Alexei will head to Ascot on Saturday, and I think there is more to come. He lost his way in the spring, but I was chuffed with his comeback run at Chepstow and he should come on a lot for that. I think there is mileage in his mark."

Copperhead

"The old boy is back for more - he just loves it. We nearly lost him in the spring due to colic - he had to have part of his intestine removed. However, he is back and he is bouncing all around the yard! He has already qualified for the Veterans' Final in January, so that will be his main aim. He could reappear in the Badger Beer Chase on November 8."

Diamond Ri

"He's been off for a while with a tendon issue but he is back now and looks great. We are just starting to up his workload. He will definitely get 3m, and we will probably look to go down the staying route over Hurdles and try and get him qualified for the Pertemps Final."

Eldorado Allen

"He's been a grand servant and hopefully there are more fun days to be had. We could look at the Badger Beer to get him going again; the race I will be targeting him at is the 2m5f Veterans' Chase at Cheltenham's December meeting."

Etna Bianco

"Etna Bianco is a lovely horse and I was delighted with his run at Cheltenham. I wanted to test the water to see where we are with him. Moving forwards, I won't over face him and let him tip away and see where we end up in the spring. He has a lot of potential."

First Confession

"We will probably head to Carlisle on Sunday with him, where I think the ground will ride slower than Ascot. It's a stiff track and a perfect starting point for him over fences. The old cliche of 'whatever he did over hurdles was a bonus' very much applies to him, as chasing will be his game.

"He won nicely at Ascot twice last season, but he came back all wrong after the Challow Hurdle and then was over the top by the time the Cheltenham Festival came along. His Ascot performances would suggest that he might want to go right-handed, but I think it is just a coincidence; he has shown me nothing at home that he needs to go that way round. He is one we are really excited about over fences."

Ted's Treble: Ed Quigley's trip of racing tips from Stratford

JPR One

"Even though he had a lot of weight, we thought he would run a big race in the Grand Annual but he made a bad mistake two out and pulled some muscles. He is going to be hard to place off his rating, but he rocks up each year and scoops a big pot, so I would love to have plenty like him.

"He is only 4lb higher than when he won the Haldon Gold Cup last season, and that is the aim once again - he loves to be fresh and that is very much 'his' race. As he is getting older he is relaxing more, and I might step him up in trip; he will probably get an entry in the Peterborough Chase"

Kasino Des Mottes

"I was happy with his run at Cheltenham the other day as he had plenty of condition on him and he will come on a lot for that outing. Three metres will be his bag, but if he gets on proper winter ground, he could come back to 2m4f. We might look at Cheltenham's December meeting with him."

Rock My Way

"I didn't hide the fact I thought he would need the run at Cheltenham (like a lot of ours have done so far) and he ran just like that. He took a while to warm up, then latched back on the bridle before tiring coming down the hill. I'm not sure where he goes next, but his main aim will be the Coral Welsh National - I think that race will really suit him."

Scarface

"He is up to 136 now so he has more on his plate. We will step him up to 3m now and see if that unlocks further improvement. Soft ground isn't a problem for him."

The Changing Man

"He did us proud last season, and rocked up to all those big races and ran his heart out. I can't pretend he looks well handicapped, as he was beaten in all the handicaps he ran in last season. He will go to Ascot on Saturday with a view to going to Newbury for the Coral Gold Cup. Longer term, we will have a think about the Grand National."

Western Knight

"He was a big baby last season, and after he ran a cracker at Cheltenham, he fizzled out a bit in the spring. Last season was an educational experience for him, and I am looking forward to him over fences. He is an old-fashioned style chaser in the making, and he will come into his own over 3m and with cut in the ground."
