Ted's Talk: Philip Hobbs and Johnson White give Ed Quigley a stable tour

Philip Hobbs and Johnson White discuss their stable stars

Philip Hobbs and Johnson White look to have a strong squad as we head into the winter months. Ed Quigley got the plans and latest updates on some of the stars at Sandhill Stables in Somerset.

Bobby's Nelson

"I am looking forward to seeing him over hurdles. He had a setback last season but will be ready to go soon. Soft ground will be important to him, and I won't run him on anything too quick."

Captain Hugo

"He will be out soon and should be one of our better prospects for the season. He looked smart when he won his bumper at Worcester, so hopefully he is one to really look forward to."

French Ship

"I was delighted with his win at Cheltenham on Saturday. He was unlucky at Chepstow when he stumbled and fell, and he probably would have won that day. He has gone up 8lb, so we will have to have a look at what options there are. He could be a Coral Cup horse, but that is a long way off obviously."

Imperial Saint

"Unfortunately, the Old Roan didn't go to plan. We had high hopes going into it, but he was on edge beforehand and it looks like he has had a setback. We will need to let the dust settle."

Kilwaughter

"You can put a line through the run in the Persian War. He got really worked up beforehand. Afterwards, he came back lame and had a sore wither, so it was all a bit of a disaster. He will have a bit of time off, and then we will find another race for him to get his confidence back."

Lowry's Bar

"He was very progressive last season until he unfortunately bled at Kempton. We have him back in great order and he could be one for the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, where hopefully he could show more improvement over that trip. We might look for a prep run beforehand."

Madaket

"He jumped much better at Ffos Las on Tuesday, and I think he is capable of winning off his mark. Soft ground and a proper trip suit him well, so I think there could be more to come from him as he is only seven."

Manuelito

"He did it nicely at Newton Abbot and has gone up 5lb for that. We will look at the Gerry Fielden for him and I am undecided as to whether he has another run before then. You probably won't see him in the deep of the winter as he wouldn't want the ground too soft."

Sober Glory

"Obviously he was a very good bumper horse, and won very well in that Listed race at Newbury last season. We left him off once the ground dried up, and he should be one of our better prospects over Hurdles this season. 2m4f should be his ideal trip, but we might start him off over 2m to take the fizz out of him. Soft ground will be important to him."

Starzand

"He won very nicely in his bumper and I was delighted with his win first time out over Hurdles at Ffos Las on Tuesday. We will look to see where we go next, but he handled the ground well and could be one to make up into a Challow Hurdle contender over Christmas. We could look at Ascot before then."

Tiny Tetley

"I thought he would need the run at Cheltenham, and that proved the case. I think there should be more to come from him. We will look to go Novice Chasing now and he wouldn't want the ground too soft."
