Man United next manager odds: Glasner the favourite to succeed under fire Amorim

Manchester United’s appointment of Ruben Amorim hasn’t gone quite according to plan. When they sacked Erik ten Hag last season, with the club in 14th place, the Portuguese boss quickly became the frontrunner to succeed the Dutchman at the Old Trafford helm.
However, Amorim hasn’t had the desired impact for the Premier League powerhouse. The shot of the former Sporting boss on the touchline playing with his tactics board was deemed to be his Steve McLaren ‘wally-with-the-brolly’ moment, as United fell to an embarrassing EFL Cup penalty shootout defeat to League Two Grimsby last month.
Amorim even went as far as to hint that his job is very much on the line, stating after Sunday’s Manchester Derby defeat: “Until I'm here, I'll do my best. The rest is not my decision.” United were again drab as they capitulated to a 3-0 loss to rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend to make it one win from the opening four league games of the season.

Combined with Tottenham’s win at West Ham, it means that no team to play both seasons in the Premier League has collected fewer points than United (31) since Amorim took charge last November.
With question marks over his future at the club, we run through Man United’s next manager odds should the board pull the trigger on the 40-year-old.
Oliver Glasner – Crystal Palace
From one three-at-the-back manager to another, Oliver Glasner is the 4/1 favourite with BetVictor to succeed Amorim at the Old Trafford helm. Crystal Palace will be reluctant to lose their star manager, but having already previously threatened to resign should Marc Guehi be sold on deadline day, the Austrian may welcome the chance to jump ship to United, especially as he’d likely be backed to assemble a squad in his image.
Gareth Southgate – Out of work
Dan Ashworth’s departure from Old Trafford last year may have ended United’s chances of appointing Gareth Southgate. Ashworth pushed for the club to appoint Southgate, but was relieved of his duties last December. Even so, Southgate is out of work, having left his role as England boss following Euro 2024. And despite Ashworth’s exit, he may be tempted by a return to Premier League management sooner rather than later. A safe pair of hands, Southgate is at 5/1 with Paddy Power to take over the United reins.

Michael Carrick – Out of work
Another out-of-work manager, Michael Carrick briefly took charge of United back in 2021 before departing after the interim appointment of Ralf Rangnick. Carrick was most recently in charge of Middlesbrough but departed the Riverside after their failure to secure promotion last season. One of a number of former United managers currently out of work, the 44-year-old is at 6/1 with BetVictor to be their next boss.

Nuno Espirito Santo – Out of work
Nuno Espirito Santo was relieved of his Nottingham Forest duties earlier this month despite his role in the Tricky Trees’ European finish. A falling out with Edu was reportedly the straw that broke the camel’s back for owner Evangelos Marinakis, with the 51-year-old now looking for a new role. The pragmatic Portuguese boss should find his way back into a Premier League hotseat before too long, with West Ham also keeping tabs on Nuno, who is at 7/1 with BetVictor to be United’s next manager.
Xavi – Out of work
After his Barcelona departure last year, Xavi has been linked with a return to management with a number of teams, including Tottenham, before they hired Thomas Frank to succeed Ange Postecoglou. Xavi’s style of play centres around dominance, and United just do not have the personnel to bring his game plan to life. Even so, the former Spain international is at 9/1 with SkyBet to take over from Amorim should he leave.
