Next Premier League Manager to be sacked odds: Postecoglou Favourite as Amorim, Farke & Maresca face pressure

Next Premier League manager to be sacked: Latest odds and favourites

The October international break is upon us, and now seems as good a time as any for teams to change their manager.

Nuno Espirito-Santo bit the bullet in September. While Russell Martin was relieved of his duties on Sunday night following Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk, with former manager Steven Gerrard favourite to return.

For the Premier League, one looks to have earned a stay of execution, but another is believed to be on the cusp of being shown the exit.

With that, we run through the updated favourites to be the next Premier League manager to face the axe.

Ange Postecoglou – Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest acted quickly to replace Espirito Santo in the September international break. There was talk of what Postecoglou could do in the Europa League and even a push towards the top six this season, but Forest can’t see the wood from the trees, without a win since the Aussie came through the door.

Indeed, Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle means the former Tottenham boss has failed to win all seven matches he has overseen, losing five.

‘Sacked in the morning’ echoed around the City Ground during Thursday’s Europa League loss to FC Midtjylland to further compound what has been a disastrous spell under Postecoglou.

While the performances haven’t been poor, football is a results business and with none forthcoming, it’s hardly a shock that Postecoglou is the 4/9 favourite with Ladbrokes to be the next manager to leave his post.

Ruben Amorim – Manchester United

The order may have changed but the two favourites remain the same. Ruben Amorim oversaw a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday, marking Manchester United’s first clean sheet of the season.

That it came with summer signing Senne Lammens between the sticks shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Even so, Amorim needs to do something he has never done after the international break to ensure this reprieve isn’t short-lived and win successive league games as United boss.

That their next match comes at rivals Liverpool is hardly ideal. Even so, Forest’s dire turn under Postcoglou means Amorim has drifted to 10/3 with William Hill to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

Daniel Farke – Leeds

‘You Farking what?’ Yes, Daniel Farke could only watch on as his Leeds side fell to a 2-1 loss to Tottenham in the final round of games before the international break, but the Whites have made a respectable return to the top-flight.

Leeds have claimed eight points from the opening seven games, while two of their three defeats have been by a single goal.

The Whites have a pair of forgiving fixtures once they return to domestic duties later this month as they do a claret and blue one-two, following up their trip to Burnley next weekend with a home match against West Ham.

These are games that Leeds could feasibly win, with it somewhat perplexing that Farke is the third favourite, albeit at 16/1 with bet365, to be the next manager to leave.

Enzo Maresca – Chelsea

Chelsea’s late win over Liverpool at the weekend did little to convince some Enzo Maresca doubters. Estevao’s injury time strike against the Premier League champions marked just their third league win of the season.

Given their expensively assembled squad, the Blues should be performing better.

While he was as short as 12/1 recently, Maresca is now out at 20/1 with Sky Bet to be the next Premier League manager to depart.

The recent 3-1 home defeat to Brighton upped the pressure on the Italian but he seems safe for now. Chelsea’s trigger-happy owners may see differently if results don’t continue to improve, however.

Vitor Pereira – Wolves

With a little more composure late on, Wolves would be out of the relegation zone.

The Midlands side sit bottom of the table with two points from the opening seven matches. But they would have had six points to their name had they kept things tight in the dying embers in recent stalemates with Tottenham and Brighton.

The points haul has improved, albeit marginally, meaning there is less pressure on Vitor Pereira, who only in September penned a new three-year deal, but draws need to be turned into wins.

They’ve come so close in recent weeks and the hope is that stalemates with Spurs and the Seagulls will provide the necessary foundation to really turn the club’s fortunes around.

Pereira’s side have a navigable return to league action later this month, which is a boost. Even so, the Portuguese boss is at 20/1 with BetVictor to be the next Premier League manager to be axed.
