Next Liverpool manager odds: Hero Klopp to make Anfield return as Slot machine falters?

Liverpool manager odds: Klopp, Glasner linked as Slot struggles

Arne Slot is under real pressure. Having followed up the 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest with a 4-1 home defeat to PSV in the Champions League in midweek, the Dutchman is up against the ropes. Liverpool have now lost three on the spin, conceding 10 goals in the process.

Across the last 12 games, the reds have lost nine times, while they’ve won just once in the league since a 2-1 Merseyside Derby win in mid-September. The title defence is in tatters and some are now calling for the former Feyenoord boss to be shown the Anfield exit.

With that in mind, we run through the updated favourites to be the next Liverpool manager, according to the best UK bookmakers.

Jurgen Klopp

Is it time for the Liverpool board to make the call to bring Jurgen Klopp back to Anfield? The German is a legend on Merseyside and the return of the former Dortmund man would certainly raise morale, which has plummeted in the wake of the dire start to the season.

Klopp currently holds a role with Red Bull, a position he has held since January. That said, you can imagine the 58-year-old will be chomping at the bit to return to club management before long. Indeed, Klopp is currently the 3/1 favourite with William Hill to be Liverpool’s next manager as the defending champions consider their options.

Andoni Iraola

The high-intensity Spaniard has his admirers among the Big Six clubs and understandably so. Andoni Iraola has worked wonders with Bournemouth, turning them into one of the most difficult Premier League opponents. The Cherries currently sit eighth in England’s top tier, just two points off the top four.

Iraola’s preference for a 4-2-3-1 setup means he already has the relevant personnel to implement his game plan at Anfield. Out of contract in the summer, too, the former Rayo Vallecano boss wouldn’t cost a fortune in compensation to buy out his contract. He is currently at 6/1 with William Hill to succeed Slot.

Oliver Glasner

Another who is out of contract in the summer, Oliver Glasner also has his Big Six suitors, and it’s easy to see why. The Austrian has turned Crystal Palace into one of the division’s best sides, with an FA Cup win in May the peak of his time in south London so far.

However, Glasner is believed to be dawdling over extending his stay at Selhurst Park, and they could pave the way for a move away from the capital. That exit could come sooner than some Palace fans may hope. While he favours a three-man backline, which would require a system change at Liverpool, Glasner is now at 7/1 with William Hill to be the next Liverpool manager.

Xabi Alonso

There are rumours of discontent at Real Madrid. The players are supposedly not a fan of head coach Xabi Alonso, who only took over at the Bernabeu over the summer. Alonso has guided Los Blancos to top spot in La Liga, while the Madrid giants returned to winning ways with an entertaining 4-3 win over Olympiacos in midweek.

Alonso was previously linked with the Liverpool gig when it was confirmed that Jurgen Klopp would be stepping down at Anfield following the 2023/24 season. Could he finally complete his Merseyside return sooner rather than later? He’s at 9/1 with Sky Bet to take over at Anfield, but as short as 4/1 with William Hill.

Ange Postecoglou

Remarkably, Ange Postecoglou has emerged as a potential candidate to take over the Liverpool reins. The Australian oversaw a disappointing 39-day spell with Nottingham Forest earlier in the season, yet he supposedly has his admirers on Merseyside, so much so that the former Tottenham boss is a possible contender to succeed Slot.

One thing is for sure, he’d welcome the chance to manage the plethora of attacking stars on the Liverpool books, one that may be boosted by the potential addition of Antoine Semenyo in January. The out-of-work 60-year-old is currently viewed as a left-field option for Liverpool, and is presently at 14/1 with Paddy Power to be the Reds’ next manager.
