IMAGO Destination Premier League: Will Jose be on his way back to London?
IMAGO Destination Premier League: Will Jose be on his way back to London?

Updated article: 10/09/2025

Having missed out on vacancies in both England and Germany recently, at Nottingham Forest and Bayer Leverkusen respectively, intrigue continues to rise around Jose Mourinho’s next managerial destination.

The ‘Special One’ was fired by Fenerbahce in his last role, after the Turkish giants lost their Champions League playoff to Benfica from his native Portugal. The 62-year-old’s CV speaks for itself, despite no certainty surrounding his immediate managerial future.

So, where is Jose’s next managerial destination?

Where will the former Benfica, Uniao de Leiria, Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma and Fener boss end up next?

Having managed three English clubs, a Premier League job may appeal to Jose. He has recently spoken about wanting a return to England, but to a club that is not participating in European competition.

Therefore, West Ham (4/1) are perceived to be the current favourites to lure Mourinho back to Britain despite Graeme Potter picking up a huge win over the Forest at the City Ground to ease pressure on him prior to the international break.

Capital clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have given Mourinho the platform to manage in London before. However, Hammers fans were promised a world class team in a world class stadium when moving from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

Despite the 62-year-old not getting any younger, he’d certainly be considered amongst the crème de la crème of what is currently out there.

Wolverhampton Wanderers (5/1) have had a whole host of Portuguese talent both on and off the park, that ultimately took them out of the Championship and led to Wolves becoming an established Premier League team.

Mourinho at Molineux wouldn’t be too surprising, given the whole host of countrymen that have gone before him in the West Midlands.

The only team to have lost each of their opening three Premier League matches, the Old Gold may be looking for a new gaffer soon.

Rangers (5/1) may also be on the lookout for a new manager soon, amid relentless criticism from Gers supporters regarding Russell Martin’s style of play and the club enduring their worst start to a Scottish top tier season in over four decades.

Both sides of Glasgow have received praise from Mourinho as recently as last season, when the Portuguese boss visited Ibrox with Fenerbahce as the Turkish giants were knocked out of last season’s Europa League in Scotland.

Any Saudi Premier League club (6/1) is the next likeliest destination for the Special One, according to the bookmakers. At this stage of his career - and having been a champion all over Europe in Portugal, Spain, England and Italy – he may fancy a new challenge and change of scenery.

The appointment of Mourinho would be the latest high-profile addition to a league that is looking to continue growing. Bookmakers deem a move to the Middle East more likely than a return to a newly-promoted Premier League outfit such as Burnley (9/1) or Leeds United (14/1).

Another London outfit Fulham (10/1), the Portuguese national team to succeed Roberto Martinez (12/1) or any Major League Soccer side (14/1) are likelier destinations than going back to a former club or taking control of the England national team (20/1).

The latest chapter of Jose Mourinho’s illustrious managerial career came to a close last week, as Fenerbahce sacked ‘The Special One’ after Fener missed out on Champions League qualification following their playoff defeat to Benfica.
