Ted's Treble: Three sizzlers for Saturday

IMAGO: Wincanton features in today's treble
IMAGO: Wincanton features in today's treble

We have a cracking day of action in-store, and Ed Quigley is here to serve up his best bets.

Aintree - 1.30 Champagne Twist

3/1 @ William Hill

CHAMPAGNE TWIST has been a frustrating figure in recent times, as he has so much ability, but Ben Pauling has admitted that he is not the easiest to train, so keeping him sound has been a challenge.

The flipside of all this is that he is now looking very well treated for his Chase debut, as we saw from his novice Hurdle campaign. He is still lightly raced and unexposed, so he could easily have more to offer now, tackling bigger obstacles.

The Pauling team continue in fine fettle, operating at around 30% over the last fortnight or so, so the team will be looking to add to that impressive tally. If he takes to fences, then he could easily be well handicapped with Ben Jones in the saddle.

Aintree - 2.05 Mambonumberfive

11/4 @ Betfred

MAMBONUMBERFIVE is a raw individual who is taking his time to fill out his frame according to his trainer, and with that in mind, he looks just the type to take to fences.

He was very impressive when winning at Kempton last season, as he was keen but showed a great attitude when it mattered to get the job done. Afterwards, he went to Aintree and ran a shocker, but many of the horses from the Ben Pauling yard were way out of form in the spring, so you can put a line through that run.

He gets his four-year-old allowance over fences, and it will be fascinating to see how he gets on. This is an individual with a lot of raw ability who should be able to take his form to new levels over fences this season.

I would be surprised if he wasn't better than a mark of 128. This combination looks exciting and Mambonumberfive can call the tune here.

Wincanton - 3.30 Scarface e/w

7/10 @ Ladbrokes

SCARFACE steps up in trip in seek of further improvement, and looking at the way he has been running, tackling 3m plus for the first time looks a wise move.

He has had wind surgery since forging clear to win over 2m5f at Newton Abbot back in May, and tackling staying distances looks a great angle of attack.

The Joe Tizzard team have started to fire in the winners, and Scarface looks versatile in regards to underfoot requirements.

It wouldn't shock me if he managed to improve beyond a mark of 136 this season, and this is a nice pot to attack first time out for the season.
