Chelsea betting statistics 2024/25
Chelsea’s end to the season gave hope for a bright future at Stamford Bridge. Enzo Maresca became the first manager since Thomas Tuchel to see out a season for the west London side, and they need stability if they are to push on from their top-four finish.
Maresca has had a young and exciting squad assembled on his behalf, while Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Liam Delap have all joined this summer. With a settled system now in place, Chelsea need to push on next season as they look to challenge for top honours.

Shots, Expected Goals and Goals
Team | Shots per game |
Liverpool | 17.1 |
Man City | 16 |
Chelsea | 15.7 |
Bournemouth | 15.3 |
Arsenal | 14.4 |
One thing Chelsea didn’t have a problem with was getting their shots away. Indeed, the Blues managed the third most shots per game (15.7) in the Premier League last season, though the statistics for Liverpool show they were a little off the pace, the Reds have averaged 17.1 in England’s top tier last term.
Team | Key passes per game |
Liverpool | 13.4 |
Man City | 12.4 |
Chelsea | 12.2 |
Bournemouth | 11.5 |
Arsenal | 11.3 |
In addition, Chelsea had no problems creating chances, ranking third with 12.2 per game, while their xG of 72.78 was also enough to podium for this metric. However, the issue came with putting their chances away. The Blues underperformed their xG by 11.78, the fifth highest underperformance, and returned a conversion rate of 10.3%, that ranking 11th.
Team | xG underperformance |
Crystal Palace | -18.56 |
Man United | -14.66 |
Southampton | -14.06 |
Bournemouth | -13.37 |
Chelsea | -11.78 |
There was again an overreliance on Cole Palmer to drag Chelsea through the mire, as the former Manchester City man finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 15 goals to his name. He netted just three league goals in 2025, and one of those was against a Liverpool side that had been crowned champions the previous week. The fact that left-back Marc Cucurella was their fifth top scorer speaks volumes.
Player | Goals (Chelsea) |
Cole Palmer | 15 |
Nicolas Jackson | 10 |
Noni Madueke | 7 |
Enzo Fernandez | 6 |
Marc Cucurella | 5 |

Chances created and passes
Not only did Palmer finish the campaign as Chelsea’s top scorer, he also provided more assists than any other player (8) for Maresca’s side, though that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Only Bruno Fernandes (91) made more key passes than the England international (89) in the Premier League last season, while 24 big chances created was also the second most in the league.
Player | Big chances created |
Mohamed Salah | 27 |
Cole Palmer | 24 |
Bukayo Saka | 21 |
Ismaila Sarr | 17 |
Bryan Mbeumo | 17 |
In addition, Enzo Fernandez ranked high for key passes in the Premier League last season, with his 79 more than any other central midfielder, and the fourth most overall. While the 24-year-old has come in for criticism, in part due to his struggles to live up to his hefty price tag, the Argentine looked far more accomplished in the middle of the park, ultimately playing a vital role in Chelsea’s Champions League finish.
Player | Key passes (CMs) |
Enzo Fernandez | 79 |
Martin Odegaard | 63 |
Youri Tielemans | 61 |
Declan Rice | 59 |
Bruno Guimaraes | 52 |
Getting the ball upfield to Chelsea’s two key creators, then, was vital as the Blues looked to pry apart defences. It shouldn’t come as a shock that Chelsea ranked third for forward passes (5889), a metric centre-back Levi Colwill (844) placed third for of all outfield players.
Team | Forward passes |
Liverpool | 6234 |
Tottenham | 5940 |
Chelsea | 5889 |
Newcastle | 5837 |
Man United | 5794 |

Tackles, interceptions and errors
While Chelsea ranked poorly for defensive metrics such as tackles and interceptions, they have one of the best ball winners in the division on the books. Moises Caicedo, like Fernandez, struggled with early expectations following his big money move from Brighton to the Blues, but last season fans witnessed the Ecuador international at his best.
Player | Tackles + interceptions |
Idrissa Gueye | 181 |
Daniel Munoz | 167 |
Moises Caicedo | 163 |
Antonee Robinson | 157 |
Noussair Mazraoui | 149 |
Caicedo finished the season third for tackles and interceptions combined (163) and top for possession won in the midfield third (130). Maresca could have asked his team to work as a unit off the ball, but when you have one of the best in the business featuring in the middle of the park, or at right-back to invert to dominate in midfield, then it’s no wonder the Italian tasked the 23-year-old with carrying out the requisite defensive responsibilities. The addition of Essugo and return of Andrey Santos should at least ease the burden on Caicedo.
Player | Poss. won in midfield 3rd |
Moises Caicedo | 130 |
Christian Norgaard | 112 |
Sandro Tonali | 109 |
Andre | 109 |
Ryan Gravenberch | 107 |
That said, a team as young and inexperienced as Chelsea’s was always going to have its blips. The average age of Maresca’s XIs over the 2024/25 Premier League season was just 24 years and 36 days, the youngest in the competition’s history. This meant there was the odd hiccup, which saw the Blues commit 14 errors leading to an opposition goal; only Southampton (19) committed more. This is a figure that should be lower in the coming campaign as the team build on their debut campaign under Maresca, and look to finesse their form in the FIFA Club World Cup during the summer.
Team | Errors leading to goal |
Southampton | 19 |
Chelsea | 14 |
Ipswich | 14 |
Aston Villa | 13 |
Man United | 13 |
After a lot of managerial change, however, Chelsea can look forward to a season of continuity, which’ll aid their chances of closing the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. While Maresca didn’t enjoy a perfect debut campaign in the capital, there is plenty to build upon, while the captures of Essugo, Sarr and Delap bolster the side in key areas.
Whether it’s enough to challenge for the title remains to be seen, but it was a step in the right direction for Maresca’s side.
