Next Rangers manager betting odds: Steven Gerrard favourite to return to Ibrox

Rangers have endured a dismal season on the pitch. Not only will the Ibrox side finish trophyless for the second time in three seasons, but the club are also looking for a permanent manager.

Interim boss Barry Ferguson hasn’t exactly delivered the best audition during his time in charge of the club, winning just four of his ten games so far.

With news that the 49ers Enterprises takeover of the Light Blues is to be completed within a matter of weeks, hopes are high that they can bring in a manager who will deliver silverware.

Plenty of names have already been linked with the vacant role - with odds supplied by Bet365. But who will be in the dugout next season?

Steven Gerrard – 1/2

If one man knows how to deliver success at Rangers, it’s Gerrard. The Englishman was in charge of the club between 2018 and 2021, leading the team to the Premiership title during the 2020/21 campaign.

Rangers went the league season undefeated and this achievement saw Gerrard linked with a few big jobs. He ended up joining Aston Villa in November 2021, but was sacked less than 12 months later.

His latest stint at Al-Ettifaq ended in March as he departed by mutual consent. It is perhaps no surprise to see him as the favourite for the job given his connections.

Steven Gerrard to be in charge of Rangers next season – 1/2

Marco Rose – 3/1

Rose was recently sacked by RB Leipzig after nearly three years in charge of the Bundesliga side. He leaves them currently sixth in the league table, but could a move to Ibrox be next for the German?

The Red Bull connection is one that links Rose to the vacant role. The 49ers have a strong relationship with Red Bull and Rose has managed both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig during his career.

It would be a coup if the club appointed the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

Marco Rose to be in charge of Rangers next season – 3/1

Sean Dyche – 12/1

Dyche is currently a free agent after being sacked by Everton a few months ago. He has plenty of experience in England, spending the best part of a decade at Burnley.

A solid coach indeed, but Gers supporters may be looking at appointing someone who has a more attacking-based philosophy. Especially one that can go toe-to-toe with Celtic.

Sean Dyche to be in charge of Rangers next season – 12/1

Russell Martin – 16/1

Martin may have been sacked by Southampton after overseeing just one win across 16 Premier League games earlier this season, but he has an excellent style of play.

Using an attacking 4-3-3 system last season, he led the Saints back to the top flight via the playoffs, scoring 87 goals across 46 matches in the Championship.

Like Dyche, Martin isn’t exactly the most inspiring name on the market, but his style could get results.

Russell Martin to be in charge of Rangers next season – 16/1

Jose Mourinho – 20/1

Mourinho in Scotland would be box office, no doubt about that. The enigmatic coach has overseen success at practically every club he has taken charge of (not Spurs), although it might be an expensive move to make.

He has a contract with Fenerbahce until 2026, meaning the club would have to pay compensation. Combine this with the fact that Mourinho makes €10.5m (£9m) per year in Turkey and it appears a move to Glasgow is slim indeed.

Jose Mourinho to be in charge of Rangers next season – 20/1
