Truist Championship betting tips: Rory McIlroy hungry for more success with Scheffler absent
Truist Championship 2025: Things to consider
We are heading into a huge fortnight of golf with the Truist Championship followed by the PGA Championship. Truist have taken over sponsorship from Wells Fargo.
Ironically Quail Hollow will host the PGA Championship next week which means the now Truist Championship relocates to the Philadelphia Cricket Club (Wissahickon golf course) for the 2025 edition.

The Truist Championship is the sixth 'signature event' of the season. It is a no-cut event comprising a $20m (£15.1m) purse, with the winner receiving $3.6m (£1.7m) and 700 FedEx Cup points.
Last year's top 50 in the FedEx Cup rankings and the top 10 in this year's FedEx Cup not already exempted (Aon Next 10) have secured qualification.
All this year's winners also have a starting berth at the Truist Championship along with the Aon Swing 5 which is the top five points earners from the Corales Punta Cana, the Zurich Classic and the Byron Nelson.
The latter of the three events was won at a canter by Scottie Scheffler, with the adopted Texan earning his first victory of the season.
Truist Championship 2025: Top of the market
Nine of the world’s top 10 golfers tee it up at the Truist Championship but the field is without world number one Scottie Scheffler for reasons unknown after his dominant victory in Texas.
Masters champ Rory McIlroy (5/1 BetMGM) headlines the Truist Championship field and will defend his title he won for the fourth time a year ago.
Xander Schauffele (16/1 Betway) looked in control for a large spell last year at Quail Hollow before being run down by McIlroy. Schauffele was also runner up at the 2023 Wells Fargo (Truist) Championship.

Justin Thomas (16/1 BetMGM) returns after his win at the RBC Heritage and this house should be a good fit. Justin Thomas is fourth in ‘par 4 birdies or better’, second in ‘par 4 performance’ and seventh in ‘strokes gained approach'.

Collin Morikawa (14/1 Spreadex) and Ludvig Aberg 14/1 (Ladbrokes) round out the top five in the Truist Championship betting odds. Jordan Spieth goes for the major ‘grand slam’ next week and is rounding into form nicely, closing out at the Byron Nelson with a 62. He opens at 28/1 with BetMGM in the Truist Championship betting.

The Wissahickon course plays to a Par of 70 at just 7,119 yards. The track is an A.W. Tillinghast design in Pennsylvania. Strategically placed bunkering is a feature on a course that is a pristine mix of parkland and heathland terrain.
Fescues and coffin bunkers remind me a little of the Old White golf course at Greenbrier. Emphasis will be on ball striking and approach play, while I'll have a close eye on the par 4 performance stats.
A resurgent Viktor Hovland lies 34th in the ‘total driving’ stats. The Norwegian sits 15th in ‘proximity to the hole’, 42nd in ‘ball striking’ and he is continuing his comeback following a recent win at the Valspar.
Since that victory he has been t21 at the Masters and 13th at Harbour Town. His tee to green game should be a great fit for the Philadelphia Club and he ranks ninth in ‘strokes gained approach’.

Hovland leads the tour in approaches from 175-200 yards, so his irons are really on song.
Sepp Straka is attracting attention this week for the Truist Championship and the Wissahickon track looks a nice course for the big Austrian.
Straka ranks eighth in ‘par 4 birdies or better’, 24th in ‘par 4 scoring average’ and second in ‘strokes gained approach’. He’s a lofty 16th in the ball striking department.
The world number 17 has been quiet of late, but he is hanging around the top echelons of the leaderboards with recent finishes of t11, t5, t14 and t13.
Russell Henley ranks 25th in ‘par 4 birdies or better’, 36th in ‘ball striking’, 15th in ‘strokes gained approach’, third in ‘greens in regulation’, and fourth in proximity. He is also fourth in ‘birdie average’.
Henley is finding top form again after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational ‘signature event’ and he finished in the top 10 last time out at Harbour Town.
FIRST’s top tip for the Truist Championship 2025
Victor Hovland looks to be back to somewhere near his best and this track looks a good fit for the Norwegian. Back him each way (eight places) at 22/1 with Coral or Ladbrokes.
Extra tips
Sepp Straka also looks to be finding form ahead of the second major of the season. Back the Austrian each way (six places) at 35/1 with Spreadex.
Russell Henley is after ‘signature event’ win number two of the season and he looks decent value to get it at 22/1 (eight places) with Coral/Ladbrokes.

Truist Championship 2025: Value bets
Without Scheffler in the running and with some of the other Truist Championship market leaders preoccupied, they look vulnerable this week and I have my eye on a few outsiders in good form who could take advantage.
Sam Burns ranks ninth in ‘par 4 birdies or better’, 35th in ‘total driving’ and 40th in ‘par 4 scoring average’.
The big hitting birdie machine has been quiet as he has been bringing up his one-year-old. Focus is back now, and his last three events show a progressive form line of t46-t13-t5, and it looks like his game is peaking again.
Keith Mitchell was extended an invite for the Truist Championship, and he comes up in a lot of the key metrics I’m looking at this week. He is also one of the form men on tour right now and his second win might be just around the corner. Mitchell ranks 14th in ‘ball striking’ and 18th in ‘total driving’.
He is 10th in ‘par 4 performance’ and seventh in ‘par 4 birdies or better’. Mitchell just missed out in Puntacana when runner up at the Corales.
Erik Van Rooyen is second in ‘par 4 birdie or better’ leaders, 18th in ‘ball striking’ and 14th in ‘total driving’. Form-wise the South African is sneaking along nicely under the radar.
He posted a top 10 at the old Honda Classic and if it wasn’t for Scheffler going mad last week, he’d have taken down the Byron Nelson with rounds of 66-67-65-63.
Van Rooyen picked up a PGA Tour title at the back end of 2023 at the Worldwide Technology Championship.
FIRST’s top value tips for the Truist Championship 2025
Sam Burns is returning to form. Get him ahead of the curve and back him each way (six places) at 50/1 with Spreadex.
Keith Mitchell is one of the best ball strikers on tour and he is in form. Get him onside (six places) each way at 80/1 with Spreadex.

Erik van Rooyen looks very underrated this week. The South African can be backed at 125/1 (eight places) with Coral or Ladbrokes.
Mitchell and Van Rooyen are 55/1 and 100/1 each way respectively in the first-round leader market with BetMGM (six places).
Odds correct at the time of writing.
