Crystal Palace betting statistics - 2024/25
Last season was one for the history books for Crystal Palace. Yes, they finished in their familiar 12th place but the FA Cup triumph - their first ever major piece of silverware - capped a remarkable campaign for the Eagles.
Supporters are now hoping the domestic success can be a springboard for bigger and better things, though the vultures are circling Selhurst Park. Eberechi Eze is a wanted man, so too is skipper Marc Guehi, while Adam Wharton has his admirers. The trio were key in Palace’s superb season; they won, but at what cost.

Goals scored, shots per game and xG
Crystal Palace were hardly the most prolific team in the Premier League last season. That was somewhat to be expected. Even with the addition of Eddie Nketiah to ease the burden on Jean-Philippe Mateta, the departure of Michael Olise last summer didn’t aid the Eagles. As such, they scored just 51 league goals last season, the seventh fewest in the division, and only the fourth highest of those to finish in the bottom half.
Team | Goals (bottom half teams) |
Tottenham | 64 |
Fulham | 54 |
Wolves | 54 |
Crystal Palace | 51 |
West Ham | 46 |
A low goal tally wasn’t for want of trying for Palace, however. They managed the 10th most shots per game (13.6) in the Premier League last season, and third to Manchester United (13.9) and Fulham (13.7) of those to finish in the bottom half of the table. That said, the relatively high shots return combined to a low goal haul points to a wider issue.
Team | Shots per game (bottom half teams) |
Man United | 13.9 |
Fulham | 13.7 |
Crystal Palace | 13.6 |
Tottenham | 13.1 |
West Ham | 12.5 |
Palace to their credit ranked eight for Expected Goals (67.72) in England’s top tier last term, yet also shows their goal haul should have been much higher. Indeed, Palace underperformed their xG by 18.72, the biggest xG underperformance in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Team | xG underperformance |
Crystal Palace | -18.72 |
Man United | -14.66 |
Southampton | -14.06 |
Bournemouth | -13.37 |
Chelsea | -11.78 |
Breaking it down to player level, two of the Premier League’s five biggest xG underperformers both play for Palace. Nketiah struggled in his debut campaign at Selhurst Park, scoring just three goals and returning the second biggest xG underperformance (4.64). Ismaila Sarr may have fared better, scoring 12 times, but even then he managed the fifth biggest xG underperformance (4.21) in the division.
Player | xG underperformance |
Dominic Calvert-Lewin | -5.67 |
Eddie Nketiah | -4.64 |
Cameron Archer | -4.54 |
Savinho | -4.3 |
Ismaila Sarr | -4.21 |

Conversion rate, big chances missed and possession
As such, considering the number of shots to the lowly goal return, it’s not a surprise that Palace had one of the worst conversion rates (9.5%) in the Premier League last season. That failure to consistently hit the back of the net meant they faced an uphill struggle in their quest to finish in the top half of the table.
Team | Conversion rate |
Southampton | 7.3% |
Man United | 7.9% |
West Ham | 9% |
Ipswich | 9.3% |
Crystal Palace | 9.5% |
In addition, a lack of composure in front of goal didn’t aid Palace’s push to finish higher than 12th. This is a weakness to their game that needs to be rectified for next season, especially in the likelihood that Eze departs for pastures new. Only three teams, after all, missed more clear-cut chances than Palace (74) in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Team | Big chances missed |
Liverpool | 92 |
Chelsea | 83 |
Aston Villa | 76 |
Crystal Palace | 74 |
Arsenal | 70 |
One player guilty for that number being so high is star striker Mateta. The Frenchman has worked wonders under Oliver Glasner to ensure the perception of him has changed having scored a notable 14 times in the Premier League last season. Yet, he should have scored more having ranked fourth for big chances missed (19).
Player | Big chances missed |
Ollie Watkins | 27 |
Mohamed Salah | 24 |
Erling Haaland | 21 |
Jean-Philippe Mateta | 19 |
Nicolas Jackson | 19 |
Given the lack of possession Palace ended the season with, the profligacy could well have cost them more in the long run, though they ultimately did enough to steer well clear of the drop. Even so, Glasner was happy for opponents to dominate the ball, with Palace’s possession return of 42.4% the fourth lowest.
Team | Possession |
Ipswich | 40% |
Everton | 40.5% |
Nottingham Forest | 40.7% |
Crystal Palace | 42.4% |
Leicester | 45.2% |

Tackles, counter attacks and set-pieces
As a result, it’s not a surprise that Palace ultimately ranked high for tackles in the Premier League last season. Glasner has implemented an aggressive approach when it comes to winning the ball back, meaning only Manchester United (21.5) and Wolves (21.1) averaged more tackles per game than Palace (20.2) in England’s top tier last term.
Team | Tackles per game |
Man United | 21.5 |
Wolves | 21.1 |
Crystal Palace | 20.2 |
Everton | 19.3 |
Leicester | 19.2 |
One of Palace’s chief ball winners was right wing-back Daniel Munoz, who ranked second for tackles (123) in the division. With the bulk of Palace’s attacks coming down the right (36%) the Colombian’s high work rate was key as the Eagles took flight down this side of the pitch.
Player | Tackles |
Idrissa Gueye | 133 |
Daniel Munoz | 123 |
Joao Gomes | 116 |
Noussair Mazraoui | 115 |
Leicester | 114 |
In addition, with the low possession return, it’s not a surprise that only United (840) won possession in the defensive third more times than Palace (835) in England’s top tier last term, with left wing-back Tyrick Mitchell (104) placing third for this metric of all players.
Team | Poss. won in defensive third |
Man United | 840 |
Crystal Palace | 835 |
Nottingham Forest | 833 |
Wolves | 829 |
Bournemouth | 806 |
With a willingness to soak up pressure, Palace would then aim to hit opponents on the counterattack with the wing-backs willing to fly up the pitch and those in support of Mateta – nominally Eze and Sarr – to pull wide if needed to catch sides out. Palace did, after all, finish the season third for shots following a counterattack (45) and fifth for counterattacking goals (7).
Team | Counter attacking goals |
Liverpool | 14 |
Tottenham | 10 |
Arsenal | 9 |
Wolves | 8 |
Crystal Palace | 7 |
In addition, Palace proved hugely prolific from set pieces, which helped to boost their goal return. While they did score just 51 times, only Nottingham Forest (17) scored more goals from set-piece situations than Glasner’s side (16) in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, this despite ranking 10th for fouls won per game (10.6).
Team | Set piece goals |
Nottingham Forest | 17 |
Crystal Palace | 16 |
Aston Villa | 16 |
Arsenal | 15 |
Brentford | 13 |
Palace, though, are expected to be the victims of their own success this summer. While Walter Benitez is a solid capture as backup for Dean Henderson, and the club has been linked with Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande to bolster at the back, question marks over Eze, Wharton and Guehi combined with uncertainty over
European participation means supporters head into the off-season with trepidation rather than excitement.
