Everton betting statistics - 2024/25
Everton began the season poorly and it wasn’t until David Moyes returned to Goodison Park in January that the Toffees could start looking up rather than down. Crucially, Moyes guided the Merseyside outfit to safety, meaning their first season in the new stadium will be in the Premier League rather than the Championship.
Everton’s safety was built on a solid defensive foundation, and if they are to enjoy a fine debut campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, then they need to improve in the final third. That said, Moyes has largely kept the core of the squad behind last season’s relative success, and this’ll aid their push to once again consolidate a top-flight spot.

Goals scored, shots and shots on target
Team | Goals |
Southampton | 26 |
Leicester | 33 |
Ipswich | 36 |
Everton | 42 |
Man United | 44 |
As mentioned, Everton’s issues largely stemmed from their inability to routinely hit the back of the net. Only Southampton (26), Leicester (33) and Ipswich (36) scored fewer goals than Moyes’ side (42) in the Premier League last season. In addition, the Toffees were one of only five sides that didn’t have a player reach double figures for league goals, with Iliman Ndiaye the club’s top scorer, with nine to his name.
Team | Shots per game |
Leicester | 8.8 |
Southampton | 9 |
Ipswich | 9.9 |
Everton | 10.7 |
Wolves | 11.3 |
Everton’s reluctance to routinely chance their luck didn’t aid their cause either, as the Toffees ended the season having averaged the fourth-fewest shots per game (10.7) in the division. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has since left the club, managed more shots (50) than any other player for the team, despite making just 19 league starts.
Team | Shots on target per game |
Leicester | 2.9 |
Southampton | 2.9 |
Ipswich | 3.3 |
Everton | 3.8 |
West Ham | 3.8 |
This also meant that Everton averaged the fourth-fewest shots on target per game (3.8) in England’s top tier last term. That Charly Alcaraz, who joined at the start of the year, finished fourth of all Everton players for shots on target (11) speaks volumes of Moyes’ need to improve the club in attack. The permanent addition of Alcaraz and signing of Thierno Barry from Villarreal should help the club in attack in the coming campaign; however, the towering 22-year-old, having struck 11 times in La Liga last season, three of which were headers, ranks him fifth.

Counter attacks, possession and clearances
Team | Counter attacking goals |
Brighton | 2 |
Leicester | 2 |
Man City | 3 |
Fulham | 3 |
Southampton | 3 |
Everton | 4 |
Everton weren’t helped by their inability to routinely hit the back of the net from counterattacks – more on this below. Indeed, they scored the sixth fewest counter-attacking goals (4), this despite managing 36 shots following a counter attack, that level with Tottenham in seventh.
Team | Possession |
Ipswich | 40% |
Everton | 40.5% |
Nottingham Forest | 40.7% |
Crystal Palace | 42.4% |
Leicester | 45.2% |
The number of shots following a counter-attack shouldn’t come as a surprise considering Everton’s possession return of 40.5% was the second lowest in the Premier League. Rather, the low number of goals from these situations is a concern, especially as two of which were by Abdoulaye Doucoure who has since left the club.

Ipswich | 28.1 |
Everton | 27.7 |
Crystal Palace | 27.4 |
Brentford | 25.4 |
Conversely, while Everton were willing to sacrifice possession, they were able to limit the chances they did ultimately concede. They thrived off the ball, having ranked third for clearances per game (27.7), while key centre-back James Tarkowski finished the campaign third for this metric (6.3) of all players.
Player | Clearances per game |
Murillo | 6.7 |
Joachim Andersen | 6.4 |
James Tarkowski | 6.3 |
Ethan Pinnock | 6.3 |

Goals conceded, clean sheets, shots conceded and xG against
This also meant that Everton, despite finishing 13th, had one of the best defensive records in the Premier League last season. Only Arsenal (34), Liverpool (41) and Chelsea (43) conceded fewer goals than the Toffees (44) in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Team | Goals conceded |
Arsenal | 34 |
Liverpool | 41 |
Chelsea | 43 |
Everton | 44 |
Man City | 44 |
In addition, Everton’s impressive defensive record meant Jordan Pickford was in the running for the Golden Glove award, having ranked third for clean sheets (12) behind Matz Sels and David Raya (both 13) in the division. The Toffees man also ranked third for total saves (119), with Pickford again playing a crucial role in Everton’s defensive resolve.
Player | Clean sheets |
Matz Sels | 13 |
David Raya | 13 |
Jordan Pickford | 12 |
Dean Henderson | 11 |
Ederson | 10 |
This is all the more commendable when you consider that Everton conceded 12.6 shots per game last season, ranking 11th in the Premier League. Pickford’s excellence between the sticks meant Everton conceded 10.95 fewer goals than their xGA (54.95) suggests.

Tackles, interceptions and aerial wins
What also stood out about Everton was their desire to get stuck in in order to ease the pressure upon Pickford’s goal. With a low possession return, they needed to work hard off the ball in order to minimise the chances they do concede, which Everton did to a good standard having ranked fourth for tackles per game (19.3).
Team | Tackles per game |
Man United | 21.5 |
Wolves | 21.1 |
Crystal Palace | 20.2 |
Everton | 19.3 |
Leicester | 19.2 |
A key performer in this instance was Idrissa Gueye, the ball-winning midfielder living up to expectations in the middle of the park. The Senegal international made more tackles (133) than any other player in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, and finished the season 10th for interceptions (48).
Player | Tackles |
Idrissa Gueye | 133 |
Daniel Munoz | 123 |
Joao Gomes | 116 |
Noussair Mazraoui | 115 |
Moises Caicedo | 114 |
Gueye’s fine reading of the game proved another way to limit the chances opponents mustered on the Everton goal, with the Toffees ending the campaign third for interceptions per game (9.1). This enabled Everton to spring counterattacks as they soaked up pressure to spring forward quickly, which is why they ranked high for shots following a counter.
Team | Interceptions per game |
Man United | 9.4 |
Bournemouth | 9.2 |
Everton | 9.1 |
Crystal Palace | 8.8 |
West Ham | 8.7 |
In addition, Everton were tough to break down when opponents went directly against the Toffees. The Merseyside outfit routinely implemented a low block, which meant they had to repel threats from the air as they did on the ground, as Everton finished second for aerial duels won per game (16.5) in the division. Strikers Beto and Calvert-Lewin ranked joint fourth for aerials won per game (3.3) in the Premier League last season, which gives an indication as to how new striker Barry will be used.
Team | Aerial wins per game |
Brentford | 16.6 |
Everton | 16.5 |
West Ham | 15.6 |
Bournemouth | 15.3 |
Nottingham Forest | 15.2 |
Moyes came in and steadied the ship well. Some may say you should never return to your ex, but the Scot and Everton remain a perfect partnership even after a prolonged spell apart. Everton would have finished ninth had the campaign started when Moyes succeeded Sean Dyche in January, and having made a couple of solid additions already this summer, the hope is the Toffees can make a flying start to life in their new home. The foundations, after all, are there for Everton to enjoy another commendable campaign.
